Popularly known as Rap God, Eminem is recognized and praised for his work in not only popularizing hip hop in Middle America but also breaking barriers to the acceptance of white rappers in the genre. One of the most successful music artists, Eminem is an inspiration for a lot of young and aspiring artists. His work during the late 1990s and early 2000s made him one of the most controversial figures in the industry at the time.

However, even with being a controversial figure, Eminem’s popularity remained unhinged. His hardships and struggles after the release of 2004’s Encore, primarily due to substance abuse, have inspired a lot of artists. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. Ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, Eminem’s controversial statement back in 2016-17 for Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton has resurfaced.

Eminem lashed out at Donald Trump with a fiery freestyle rap ‘The Storm

Back in 2017, during a pre-recorded performance at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, Eminem decided to take the opportunity to call out Donald Trump in his rap cipher titled The Storm. He called out President Trump for racism, hypocrisy, and more. The lyrics of the rap go,

That’s an awfully hot coffee pot. Should I drop it on Donald Trump? Probably not. But that’s all I got till I come up with a solid plot. When he attacks the NFL, we focus on that instead of talking about Puerto Rico or gun reform for Nevada/all these horrible tragedies, and he’s bored and would rather cause a Twitter storm with the Packers. Then he says he wants to lower our taxes.

The artist went on to call Trump ‘stingy’, a spoiled little brat’, a racist 94-year-old grandpa, and a ‘Kamikaze that will probably cause a nuclear holocaust’. He also slandered Hillary Clinton. In an interview with Vulture, he was asked about The Storm, to which he said,

He makes my blood boil. All jokes aside, all punch lines aside, I’m trying to get a message out there about him. I want our country to be great too; I want it to be the best it can be, but it’s not going to be that with him in charge. I get almost flustered thinking about him—that’s how angry he makes me.

Eminem shared that the people who support Trump are the ones he cares about the least and don’t even realize it. Calling out Trump, the artist said how can people believe that he’d be looking out for them when he has never known about the struggles of life. Em also pointed that Trump had disrespected military veterans. He also added,

I just feel mad that Trump’s sold people a dream that’s never coming true. I want the division in this country to stop. I most want people to take a second and think about what I‘m saying.

Former professional football quaterback Colin Kaepernick took to his social media to appreciate Em for his freestyle rap and wrote, ‘I appreciate you.’ Eminem, in his interview with Billboard, noted that he was aware that Hillary Clinton had her flaws, but anyone is better than Donald Trump.

Em also called out Clinton for her email controversy in his Sway In The Morning Freestyle lyrics, which read, ‘But Hillary, I promise to wipe my server clean if you face subpoenas.’ But his dislike for Trump goes way beyond Clinton.

Eminem talks about why he put out freestyle rap The Storm

In his interview with Billboard, Eminem was asked about his freestyle rap The Storm. He explained that he at the time felt that everyone who was with Donald Trump didn’t like his music anyway. He added that that they are opposites even though he understands the comparison with non-political correctness.

He made these people feel like he was going to do something for them. It’s just so f**ing disgusting how divisive his language is—the rhetoric, the Charlottesville shit—just watching it go, ‘I can’t believe he’s saying that’.

Em recalled that Trump disrespected military veterans when he started talking about John McCain, which he said was ‘scary to him’. The artist went on to address the backlash he received because of the homophobic and misogynistic lyrics he uses by stating that he is aware that he says a lot of f**ked up shit, but a lot of it is said in jest.

The artist explained that he uses such provocative lyrics to get a reaction out of the public, adding that it’s his artistic license to express himself. He added Trump isn’t an artist and doesn’t have an artistic license. The rapper shared that he hesitates to say that he has a hatred for him in his heart, but it’s a serious contempt.
