Eminem’s Massive Record With ‘The Death of Slim Shady’ Will Pose a Serious Challenge For Both Post Malone and A$AP Rocky- Here’s Why
- Eminem's The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) sets the record for biggest rap debut album in 2024.
- Post Malone and A$AP Rocky's album are releasing in August.
- Eminem's The Death of Slim Shady's records will be hard to break.
Popularly known as the Rap God, Eminem is considered to have one of the significant artists who managed to break barriers for white rappers to be accepted in the industry. Eminem recently released his 12th studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), featuring artists including Skylar Grey, Big Sean, Jelly Roll, and more.
Ahead of the release of the album, the lead single, Houdini, accompanied by a music video was released. In no time, it reached the number one spot in about 12 countries and on the Global 200. The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) managed to reach a significant record for the artist, which is going to be hard for his fellow rappers’ upcoming albums to surpass.
Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) records the biggest rap debut of 2024
Released on July 12, 2024, Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), according to The Grape Juice, debuted on Spotify with a massive 63.6 million streams. The release of the album sets a record for being the biggest debut for a hip-hop album in 2024, along with being the biggest debut for a male artist in 2024.
The studio album has reportedly surpassed Future & Metro Boomin’s We Don’t Trust You. According to E Pro, We Don’t Trust You had the biggest opening day in hip-hop, with nearly 59.3 million streams until The Death of Slim Shady’s arrival. The reports have noted that the records for the recently released album showcase the dominance Em’s music has over the listeners.
Critics and the audience have responded with praise for the album, noting that Eminem is still edgy with his music and lyrics, something that his fans and listeners have always loved. The artist didn’t hold himself back as he went on to name-drop a lot of people in his recent album and didn’t hesitate to touch upon the controversial themes.

According to Complex, The Death of Slim Shady is almost like a museum of Em’s career, and fans are here to appreciate him for it. Fans were not surprised to know that the album has managed to break records, as they shared, ‘Em still got it’, with another one writing that The Death of Slim Shady is a masterpiece.
Em’s 2020 album Music to be Murdered By was released without any prior announcement, just like 2018’s Kamikaze. The 2020 album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 despite receiving mixed reviews. He became the first artist to have ten consecutive number-one albums in the US. Critics may or may not like Em’s style of music or lyrics, but, fans do, which is why he is known as The Rap God.
Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady ready to give tough competition to A$AP Rocky and Post Malone’s upcoming albums
On the one hand, fans are celebrating the release and success of The Death of Slim Shady, but they are also waiting for A$AP Rocky’s upcoming album Don’t Be Dumb. According to Pitchfork, the upcoming album is a follow-up from 2018’s Testing and is scheduled for release on August 30, 2024.
Rocky previewed a song from the upcoming album during Paris Fashion Week in June 2024. While speaking to DAZED back in October 2023, the artist shared,
I’ve been really experimenting as usual, and what I like about this is that it feels like my best work yet. I want to leave expectations wide and open. I don’t want to tell you what to expect. I just want people to experience it as they do naturally.
A$AP Rocky isn’t the only one whose upcoming album is going to have Em’s album as its competition, but Post Malone’s sixth studio album, F-1 Trillion, is all set to release on August 16, 2024. The upcoming album marks Malone’s transition into country music and will feature artists including Morgan Wallen, Blake Shelton, Luke Combs, and Chris Stapleton.
F-1 Trillion was preceded by the release of two singles, I Had Some Help and Pour Me a Drink. The album serves as the follow-up to his 2023 Austin album. I Had Some Help, featuring Morgan Wallen, recorded Spotify’s single-day country streaming record with nearly 14 million streams.
During his appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Malone was asked if he was going to work on a country album, to which he said (via Music Mayhem),
To be honest, there’s nothing stopping me from taking a camera or setting up in my studio in Utah and just recording a country album. I’m allowed to do that. I’m a human being. I split my time between a lot of different things because I am happily obligated to do concerts and show love to my fans. I am happily obligated to write music and make beats by myself, and I am happily obligated to, you know, take care of my family. So, it’s a lot of time, and it’s about finding that space to allot that time.
A$AP Rocky and Post Malone’s album might have nothing to do with Em’s The Death of Slim Shady, but of course, the streaming records would be compared. With the success and praise coming in for The Death of Slim Shady, it’s going to be tough for Don’t Be Dumb and F-1 Trillion to surpass the record.
Don’t be Dumb comes out on August 30th, while F-1 Trillion comes out on August 16, 2024.
