Zendaya-led Euphoria is not going to make the headlines in this year’s Emmy Awards. Not because critics still can’t forgive Euphoria director Sam Levinson for his abysmal work in The Idol (don’t expect to hear much about this The Weeknd starrer show in nominations either) – but rather due to technicality.

Zendaya has won millions of hearts over the years for portraying Rue Bennet, a high school-age girl struggling with drug addiction, in the American teen drama television series that kicked off in 2019. Since its premiere, the show about a group of high school students trying to work out love and friendships in drug and s*x-fueled society has picked four Emmy awards, including the Lead Actress honor that the 26-year-old received last year.

But expect to see Euphoria dissed by the Emmys during their announcement on Wednesday morning.

Why Zendaya won’t get any plaudits for Euphoria in Emmy 2023

The announcement bereft of Euphoria’s name is bound to cause frustration amongst its loyal fans. As such, it’s only important to clear that the absence is going to be because of an Emmy Awards rule that doesn’t take shows into consideration if they fail to meet the required number of episodes before the May 31 deadline.

A series needs to be a minimum of six episodes available for public viewing on a national platform by the deadline.

Euphoria fails to meet the requirements, as no new season of the acclaimed series is airing during the eligibility period of June 1, 2022-May 31, 2023. The last episode of season 2 – All My Life, My Heart Has Yearned for a Thing I Cannot Name – aired on 27th February 2022 and the third season is expected to be available in 2025.

Hence, there won’t be any mention of Euphoria and its talented cast, which apart from Zendaya includes Sydney Sweeney and Hunter Schafer, during the 75th annual awards show.

Zendaya to make waves with her film Challengers

While Zendaya won’t get much spotlight for Euphoria in the Emmys, she’s all set to dominate the headlines during the Venice Film Festival in August, with her film Challengers set to open there as part of its world premiere.

The Spider-Man‘s Michelle “MJ” Jones will play Tashi Donaldson, a former tennis prodigy caught between two suitors, Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) and Patrick Josh O’Connor.

Challengers, which is set to be released on September 15, is already trending on social media for one of the raunchy scenes in the trailer that shows Tashi sitting in the middle of the two male lead characters and passionately making out with both. Judging by the initial reactions, this isn’t the last of Challengers and its scenes we are going to hear!
