Interestingly, it’s not just The Batman returning to the cinema, but it’s coming with a special popcorn bucket that is a near-prop quality Bat Signal popcorn bucket. According to The Direct, the special Batman 85th Popcorn Collectible Concession Vessel bucket can light up with the classic Bat signal. The set is also available for the fans to purchase.

The trend for personalizing the popcorn buckets started with Dune: Part Two, whose buckets were inspired by sandworms. Inside Out 2 also used the emotions depicted in the movie to personalize the popcorn buckets for the audience to enjoy. Fans mentioned that the trend that started with Dune 2 was like a necessary sacrifice for a golden age of movie merch. At the time of its release, fans reacted in the most hilarious way because of the design.

Filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, during an interview with The New York Times, was asked about the popcorn bucket which was dubbed to look like a ‘bu**hole’, to which he said that he respects the bold choice and added that it indeed creates a lot of fun online. He said it was an impressive design for a popcorn bucket, but Timothée Chalamet admitted that he cannot quite tell if the designer is proud or brutally offended. They both agreed that the popcorn bucket brought a lot of laughter and people to cinemas.

Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine weren’t behind, as they also introduced their personalized popcorn buckets for the fans. Deadpool & Wolverine went a step ahead and introduced grip cups with toppers that came with titular heroes, Babypool, Headpool, and more. (via The Direct)

Is personalized popcorn buckets the new trend for moviegoers?

What started as a trend with Dune: Part Two has been in the play since 2019 when AMC Theatres have made personalized pop-corn buckets for blockbuster movies including Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker to Taylor Swift: Eras Tour. However, in 2024, Dune: Part Two did bring the trend back, and Elizabeth Frank, Chief Content Offer at AMC Theatres, spoke to Variety about the popcorn buckets. She was asked how much AMC plans to lean into the collectible popcorn buckets, to which she said,

Some fans are collectors. There’s another group of people who are specific film fans, buying three different Ghostbusters products. It’s a material part of our food and beverage business, but it’s not the majority of it. It also makes movies more fun. It’s like going home from a concert with a T-shirt. There is a lot of creative energy from it. We continue to learn and evolve. We would have never imagined the Dune thing. We would have never created it knowing it would be celebrated or mocked.

Cinemark also unveiled their popcorn bucket for the movie, which had a Xenomorph head, including a long, protruding back of the head. The premium bucket is shaped in the shape of a Weyland Industries experiment canister where the popcorn goes and lights up with green lights. A small face hugger can be spotted scurrying away to its freedom. A Reddit user stated that the bucket also makes up for a great display at home. It does seem like the growing trend is taking over and the fans will see more such popcorn buckets of their favorite movies in the near future.
