Season 3 of the massively popular show The Boys ended with a bang as the public encouraged Homelander despite him showing his true colours and sinister attitude. Fans await the premiere of the next season of the show which will pick up where its spinoff Gen V left off. An interesting concept for sure, both series are set in the same universe and same timeline, and setting up the next season for each other.

Starlight’s Story Arc in The Boys Season 4

The powerful Starlight who always aspired to be a part of the Seven by Vought in The Boys has finally seen the reality of the Superhero group. By the end of season 3, Starlight aka Annie quits the Seven and joins the Boys in their fight against Homelander and his evils. She suffered immensely in the previous season and has only become stronger to help Butcher and her boyfriend Hughie take down Homelander. In the last episode, we see Annie embrace her power to fly, making her a considerable obstacle in Homelander’s way.

Erin Moriarty shared on Instagram how her character Annie is entering her vengeance era and will stop at nothing to defeat the evil superhero. When she was asked about her character’s vengeance era in the upcoming season, she agreed that it was the best character arc for Starlight and said, “I can’t see it getting any better.”

Previously, Annie enjoyed the support of Maeve who also saw Homelander for who he was and stood against his actions. Moreover, Maeve actively fought against him and ended up losing her powers. Eric Kripke, the creator of The Boys, explained in an interview with Variety how Annie and Maeve are intertwined.

“We didn’t want to kill Maeve and fall into the tropes of gay characters and bisexual characters in shows getting killed. We wanted to do the opposite of that and send her off and give her a happy ending with Elena. The best way to do that was, well, take away her powers, and she’s not useful in the fight anymore. And we did that because Annie can’t really grow into her own until all the characters that are around to protect her are gone. It was important for her next step for her mentor characters and her protector characters to go away. And so it’s only up to Annie. There’s no one left but Annie. So what is she going to do?”

The Boys will be stronger against Homelander and the Seven with Starlight in their midst. For once, they have someone with powers who can elevate their position and give them a fair chance at winning. That is to keep aside Butcher’s Gen V doses that he secretly took to gain more power against Homelander. It will be interesting to see how these tropes tie up and how Homelander, who will be more vicious and violent next season, deals with the emerging foes.

Ryan’s Future in The Boys Season 4

The last season featured Ryan and his relationship with his father Homelander. The duo started off rocky with Butcher trying to shield Ryan from the evil superhero’s actions. However, Homelander was successful in charming his son and luring him with a promise of power. The last episode sees Ryan’s excited reaction to his father killing a man who hurt him while the audience cheers for him. Kripke further explained,

“Ryan is a really important piece of the story because he’s half Becca, half Homelander. If Butcher can figure out how to get his shit together and get the kid back, that could be the single best weapon they have against Homelander. But vice versa. If Homelander wins the kid over, that’s apocalyptic because then there’s two Homelanders. It’s like a child drama with apocalyptic stakes. It’s like “Kramer vs. Kramer” meets “Avengers: Endgame.” So that will be a really rich story moving forward.”

Fans can’t wait for the next season to release since it will answer so many questions that kept them on the edge of their seats all this time. The Boys has had a terrific run to date with Prime Video revelling in the success and viewership it has brought for the platform. While the exact date is unknown, season 4 of The Boys is expected to be released this year.
