Even After Ewan McGregor’s Desperate Attempt For Season 2 Lucasfilm Doesn’t Want Another Obi-Wan Kenobi Show
Scottish actor Ewan McGregor has portrayed numerous characters over the years. He is most known for playing the role of young Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy that was released between 1999 and 2005. Although the prequel did not do too well, McGregor was highly praised for his portrayal of the character.
More than a decade later, Ewan McGregor reprised his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the eponymous miniseries that was released on Disney+ in 2022. The series was a part of the Star Wars franchise and had been received well. McGregor was elated to have gotten the chance to play the beloved character after so many years and he wants to do it again as he has already pitched ideas for the show’s second season.

Ewan McGregor Has Ideas for Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Second Season
The Christopher Robin actor is more than ready to star in a second season of the Star Wars spinoff series, but luck does not seem to be in his favor because the show was, sadly, developed as a single, standalone season. The show’s director Deborah Chow told The Hollywood Reporter about McGregor’s enthusiasm for a potential second season.
Obi-Wan Kenobi director Deborah Chow said:
“As Ewan and I finished our very last shot on second unit, and I was literally taking off my headphones, he was already pitching me ideas for season two. There’s another 10 years with plenty of stories, and I don’t think it’s off the board. It is a ‘never say never’ situation, but we really did conceive this to be a limited series.”

Evidently, The Impossible star is quite passionate about the show. In an interview with British GQ, he said: “I really hope we do another. If I could do one of these every now and again — I’d just be happy about it.” Despite the actor’s enthusiastic response for a second season, Lucasfilm is unwilling to renew the show which is heartbreaking news for fans.
Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Second Season is Not Being Developed
Earlier, the boss of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy had candidly said that the show’s second season is not being actively developed. She said:
“But I never say never because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well-received, and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job.”
In June 2023, Vivien Lyra Blair who starred as Leia Organa in the series, also spoke of Ewan McGregor‘s excitement about a second season. She said that his passion for the series has not diminished at all, and he is willing to explore more stories. She also said that her return to the show is unlikely because fitting her into it would be an arduous task.
