“Even in her pain, know she cared for me”: Kendrick Lamar Confessed Cheating on His Fiancée Whitney Alford
Kendrick Lamar is a master rapper with exceptional technical skills. The Money Trees star doesn’t shy away from tackling tough topics. People love how he can switch flows and show emotions with his voice.
Even though the Californian rapper is super successful, he usually keeps his personal life to himself. But in 2022, he opened up about cheating on his fiancée, Whitney Alford, in his song Mother I Sober. This song offers a raw and honest look into his personal life, discussing his struggles with cheating, dealing with addiction, and hoping for forgiveness.
Kendrick Lamar Admits Cheating on Whitney Alford
Kendrick Lamar is known for his deep lyrics, and Mother I Sober is no exception. The song details Lamar’s infidelity and the subsequent guilt and shame he feels. It is a sincere and open admission from the 17-time Grammy winner about his deception. He revealed in the lyric:
“I was never high, I was never drunk, never out my mind/I need control, they handed me some smoke, but still I declined/I did it sober, sittin’ with myself, I went through all emotions/No dependents — except for one, let me bring you closer. Intoxicated, there’s a lustful nature that I failed to mention/Insecurities that I project, sleepin’ with other women/Whitney’s hurt, the pure soul I know, I found her in the kitchen/Askin’ God, ‘Where did I lose myself? And can it be forgiven?’”
The eighth song on Lamar’s album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers (which has nine songs in total) is all about opening up about his fears and insecurities. Beyond his love life, in the song, the Campton native also shared how he is staying away from smoking and drinking to keep his mind clear.
Even after his betrayal, Whitney Alford responded with understanding, not anger. The licensed aesthetician and makeup artist saw the signs of possible addiction in him and pushed the rapper to seek therapy. As the 36-year-old rapped in the 2022 song:
“Broke me down, she looked me in my eyes, ‘Is there an addiction?’/I said ‘No,’ but this time I lied, I knew that I can’t fix it/Pure soul, even in her pain, know she cared for me/Gave me a number, said she recommended some therapy.”
