Anne Hathaway recently sang in the Broadway fundraiser event for Kamala Harris. It was hosted in New York on the 14th of October. Hathaway’s performance met with applause as she passionately sang Queen’s Somebody to Love.

This wasn’t the first time that Hathaway has performed Queen’s classic. Fans may recall her singing the song in her 2004 film Ella Enchanted. However, this time, the stakes were higher as the audience consisted of influential politicians and Broadway stars.

Not only did she amaze people with great singing, but her passionate speech in support of Kamala Harris got people cheering. According to Daily Mail, she addressed the crowd, saying,

We’ve got a big choice to make, America, and you do have to make a choice, you do have to vote… And maybe in this election… maybe the somebody you love is you. You’ve got to vote for yourself, America.

Netizens took to social media to praise Hathaway’s performance. Many posted video clips of her performance, praising the vocal skills of the actress.

According to The Express Tribune, Hathaway also called Harris an embodiment of “compassion and strength,” showing that her support is not limited to the stage and screen only. The rally was quite successful, which saw legends including Audra McDonald and Billy Porter take to the stage in the event.

The Broadway Rally for Kamala Harris event in New York was a true meeting of big names where pop culture celebs and political elites gathered. Apart from Hathaway, another New York-born actress was Whoopi Goldberg, who was also part of the event. Talking about Harris’ decision to use Broadway for her campaign, she told Variety,

Kamala Harris couldn’t have come to a better place than Broadway. The people of Broadway are a microcosm of every slice of life in America — so we get who you are and where you need to be.

Other stars who attended the event were Kelli O’Hara, Kristin Chenoweth, Ana Gasteyer, Wilson Cruz, Arielle Jacobs, Erika Henningsen, Isabelle McCalla, J. Harrison Ghee, Judy Kuhn, Lilli Cooper, Rosie Perez and Shaina Taub. These Broadway icons raised their voices in support of Harris through their speeches and performances.

The event was a co-production of James Wesley Jackson, Seth Rudetsky, Bruce Cohen, Robb Nanus, and Jeff Metzler. The show was directed by Schele Williams, while Rudetsky was the music director. Moreover, it wasn’t just a one-off event.

It was organized as part of a broader campaign known as Broadway for Harris, a volunteer group that is supporting Harris and Tim Walz.

Anne Hathaway has been actively taking interest in the 2024 presidential election. Besides the Broadway performance, she has been encouraging her followers to vote through her Instagram posts, much like she did with her performance.
