Even Zendaya Will Bow Down to Will Smith After ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’ Obliterates ‘Challengers’ With One Swift Move That Will Leave Ryan Gosling in Tears
American actor, rapper, and film producer, Will Smith, is easily one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars. Smith has been fans’ favorite for his movies like Bad Boys, The Pursuit of Happyness, Men in Black, and many others. He also has one Academy Award, one Golden Globe Award, and one BAFTA Award to his name.
Smith’s new action-comedy movie, Bad Boys: Ride or Die hit the theatres recently. The movie has already begun showing its potential for commercial success, and Zendaya and Ryan Gosling might be a little concerned about what it means for their movies.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die– The Bad Boys Are Doing Good at the Box Office
There is absolutely no doubt that Will Smith, Zendaya, and Ryan Gosling are some of the best actors in the movie industry. Not so long ago, the Euphoria actress’ sports-romance movie, Challengers was released. Up next, Ryan Gosling hit the theaters with his action-comedy movie, The Fall Guy. Will Smith’s June release might have made matters worse.
Smith’s latest release, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, is doing great in terms of commercial success. Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the movie was released on June 7, 2024, and its domestic box office opening day itself collected $21.6 million (via Variety). This is one of the highest collections of this year till now.
Against Smith’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Zendaya’s Challengers was able to earn only $6.2 million on its opening day (via Collider). Even Gosling’s The Fall Guy couldn’t compete with Bad Boys: Ride or Die as it had collected only $10.4 million on its opening day (via Variety).
Gosling must be more disappointed about the fact because just like Bad Boys: Ride or Die, The Fall Guy was also an action film and yet he couldn’t do as well as him despite having been a part of a project as huge as Barbie last year.
Is Will Smith’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die Worth a Watch?
Smith’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die has already earned a 97 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans really love Smith and Martin Lawrence in action. Although critics have appreciated the movie for its storytelling and originality, they have also raised questions about it.
Critics loved the fact that the filmmakers have managed to preserve the original essence while making it equally entertaining. One of the critics has termed the movie a ‘retro hit’, for the movie still made the outdated male fantasy world seem enjoyable. A critic from the Film Authority wrote:
“…the formula works, and the Bad Boys are the last men standing when it comes to enjoying this kind of outdated male fantasy world…these movies may play to a third of their previous audience, but that’s still big enough to qualify as a retro hit in 2024.”
At the same time, few critics have found the movie to have done a little of everything without being great at anything in particular. To them, the movie is a forgettable action thriller or a satisfactory piece of entertainment.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die is in theaters now.
