Everyone Keeps Forgetting One of the Most Hated Game of Thrones Actors is in Star Wars: The Acolyte
Game of Thrones (GOT) was a cultural phenomenon. Literally. With all of the glitz and glamour in the show, there was also some hate. Tommen Baratheon was one of the most hated characters of the show, and he was portrayed by English actor Dean-Charles Chapman.
Chapman rose to prominence after playing the role of Billy Elliot in the West End theater production of Billy Elliot the Musical. Fans have also recognized Chapman for his role as Richard Grey in The White Queen and of course, Tommen in the HBO fantasy series GOT.
However, his fame is quite debatable unlike other actors who get fans’ love with fame, Chapman has been showered with hate for the fame he has earned due to his performance in the fantasy show. As of now, he is gracing the screens as Torbin in Star Wars: The Acolyte, and people might have missed the fact that he once played one of the most hated characters in GOT.
Game of Thrones Actor Dean-Charles Chapman is Almost Unrecognizable in Star Wars: The Acolyte
The 26-year-old actor has got the internet talking roles due to the stark contrast in his looks in GOT and The Acolyte. He first played the role of Tommen Baratheon in the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones. Fans got acquainted with the actor from the series and remembered him in the same way. However, many of the same fans couldn’t recognize him when he played the role of Torbin in Star Wars: The Acolyte, which also stars Carrie-Anne Moss in a lead role.
Recently, two episodes of the new Star Wars series were released on Disney+. The series features Chapman as Tobin but most of the fans were initially unaware of the fact. The failure to recognize the actor is due to his entirely different look in the series as compared to Game of Thrones.
Maybe Chapman looks completely different in The Acolyte because of the beard and the hairline. The hairline has started a little discourse online and it’s not looking good. Hopefully, it won’t get as bad as it got when he portrayed Tommen.
Dean-Charles Chapman’s Game of Thrones Character Attracted a Lot of Hatred
Chapman famously played Tommen Baratheon, a king, in Game of Thrones which earned him a lot of hatred. His character earned hatred because he was a naive king in the series who kept getting manipulated by others. He was a young king in the series who could never make it up to the fans’ expectations.
Chapman was aware of all the hatred he had been getting for the role and was not too happy about it. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the sixth season, he said:
It’s been building up tension and getting more and more frustrating. Even the fans are getting frustrated: ‘Come on, do something!’ Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of Tommen hate, and it sucks!
Chapman also revealed to Variety that once he met a fan who wanted to punch him for his Westeros character. Looks like people are having a hard time differentiating the real actor from the reel one.
Game of Thrones is available for streaming on HBO Max and The Acolyte is available for streaming on Disney+.
