Recently, the actress took her trophy to visit her father Datuk Yeoh Kian Teik’s grave, in Malaysia.
The 60 years old actress Michelle Yeoh was so proud and emotional while receiving her Oscar. She visited her family to attend the traditional Qingming Festival and paid tribute to her late father by visiting his grave along with her award to seek his blessings. Yeoh shared a touching post and a picture of her mother holding her Oscar on Instagram with a caption,
“Brought Mr. O home. Without my parents’ love and trust and support, I wouldn’t be here today.”
Michelle Yeoh was married to Hong Kong entrepreneur Dickson Poon. With her great talent and amazing acting skills, she has been a great part of big films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Michelle Yeoh Became The First Asian Star To Win An Academy Award
In March at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, Michelle Yeoh created history. She won Academy Award for her powerful performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. She took the stage by storm, breaking down in tears when her major triumph was announced.
In her award acceptance speech, the Crazy Rich Asians actress said,
“For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities. This is proof that dreams dream big and dreams do come true, and ladies, don’t let anybody tell you you are ever past your prime. Never give up.”
She then expressed gratitude to her cast and crew mates, as well as the film directors, for giving her the opportunity to play Evelyn Quan Wang in the film. Yeoh said,
“I wouldn’t be standing here tonight without the Daniels, without A24, without my amazing cast and crew, without everyone who was involved with Everything Everywhere All At Once.”
Michelle Yeoh continued,
“But—I have to dedicate this to my mom, all the moms in the world, because they are really the superheroes, and without them, none of us would be here tonight. She’s 84, and I’m taking this home to her. She’s watching it right now in Malaysia with my family and friends. I love you guys. I’m bringing this home to you.”
She concluded by saying,
“And also to my extended family, in Hong Kong, where I started my career. Thank you for letting me stand on your shoulders, and giving me a leg up so that I could be here today. And to my godchildren, my sisters, all of them, my brothers, too—oh, God, to my family. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you to the Academy. This is history in the making! Thank you!”
This sentimental gesture reflects Michelle Yeoh’s beautiful character and her love for her roots. She has made herself, her family, and Asians in general, proud with her stellar work in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
