Holmberg continued;

“But above all, he is an incredibly skilled artist. By mastering stylized extravagance, literary precision and nuanced realism with the same relaxed self-evidence, Ewan McGregor has shown that he is one of the truly great actors of our time.”

McGregor went on to receive his award following a screening of his 1996 movie Trainspotting. The Scottish actor will also participate in a question-and-answer conversation following the screening of his movie.

Ewan McGregor talks about directing another movie

The actor appeared at the San Francisco Fan Expo earlier where he talked about his first directed movie; American Pastoral, which premiered in 2014. In a conversation with Collider, the actor went on to share his experience of directing a movie;

“I had the most amazing experience with the actors. Rehearsing every scene, I would clear everybody but the actor out and it just felt like we were making a film without a director, like we were getting away with something.”

American Pastoral however didn’t work at the box office but it taught McGregor what not to repeat with his next whenever he directs one. He said,

“I loved it. I would definitely do it again. You put so much of yourself into it. I’ve gained so much more understanding for other directors as a result of it. I know now, what you put of yourself into that, is an unbelievable commitment. I couldn’t do it again just for the sake of it, I need to find a story I had to tell and I’m lazy, I am waiting for it to find me.”

He lastly added that the post-production was tricky as he did not have a lot of experience with the editing, the sound design, the color grading, and everything else. McGregor noted that it was all new for him but it’s where he learned the most about directing.

Congratulations Ewan McGregor!
