Last year, Billie Eilish surprised everyone when she appeared on the cover of British Vogue with a brand new blonde look and an outfit that was completely opposite of what her style was back then. Recently, the singer revealed that the change was on purpose and admitted that she’s more than happy to return to her signature look.

Billie Eilish had no idea who she was

Billie Eilish told NME that when the Vogue cover was released in May 2021, she “had no idea who she was,” and couldn’t digest the fact that the world only knew her as someone who wore baggy clothes and dark hair, and recorded dark songs with heavy synth. She said,

“Before that, I was one kind of person and wore a certain type of clothes and made a certain type of music… and that haunted me, as people only thought of me in one dimension and I didn’t like that. I felt pretty trapped in the persona that people had of me, and then I changed it completely to f**k with everyone.”

She said her goal was to establish “range” and to feel “feminine and masculine.”

After the Vogue cover, the singer ditched that look and went back to her old look. She is now happy in her own skin. She said, “I wanted to prove that to myself, too. Now I finally feel comfortable in the person I actually am and being all of those things at once.”

The singer said that she feels comfortable with herself, but still feels like she’s in a “real transitional period” and is looking to change the fact that she’s been “a little complacent” and “accepting of things that weren’t very fulfilling” in the past. She said, “I’m trying to find myself again. I don’t want to live the way that I lived last year; I want to live differently. I want to trust my gut more and listen to myself more.”
