FRIENDS Star Matthew Perry Was Reportedly “Angry and Mean” Before His Death Due to Alleged Ketamine Overdose
After the toxicology report revealed the cause of Friends star, Matthew Perry’s death, there was another revelation which stated that the actor was getting “angry and mean” weeks before his death. This news was out shortly after his use of ketamine was brought to notice.
Page Six, who found about Perry’s furious behavior, reported that the actor mentioned in his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, that he was not comfortable with the Ketamine therapy and also mentioned that he used to get blindfolded and listened to music while he got it injected.
He explained that he would get disengaged during infusion and described the medical drug as a “giant exhale.” He added that he felt as if he was dying and thought that one gets a similar experience being dead.
Matthew, died at his Los Angeles Residency near Pacific Palisades at the age of 54 on Saturday, 28th October, 2023. He was found in the Jacuzzi of his residence and was declared his cause of death was cardiac arrest. TMZ, who was first to report his death stated that there were no findings related to any kind of rugs or foul play.
Perry Wrote In His Memoir That The Ketamine “Hangover Was Rough”
According to the story published by Page Six, Matthew Perry wrote about how he felt while taking Ketamine. He wrote, “Taking K is like being hit in the head with a giant happy shovel. But the hangover was rough and outweighed the shovel.”
Ketamine is a drug used for medical treatments like depression and pain management. It is used as a recreational drug and also for the induction of anesthesia.
According to the toxicology report by the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner, shared by Variety, there was no evidence of the Ketamine infusion therapy after they found the drug in the actor’s system, saying that the effects of the medication treatment lasted for around 3-4 hours, or even less. This suggests that The West Wing actor overdosed on the drug as he completely relied on it.
What Else Did The Actor Mention In His 2022 Memoir?
When the late actor published his book, he had an interview with People, where talked about his past, especially his childhood which affected him till his last days. He mentioned that he got addicted to alcohol at the age of 14. In addition, he wrote about getting used to a painkilling drug called “Vicodin,” which is used to treat severe pain. He started using that mediation after he met with a Skii accident in the year 1977.
The Friends actor’s past medical record is not easy to digest. He mentioned that in 2018, at 49, the actor was hospitalized due to gastrointestinal perforation and almost died. He was put on an ECMO machine, for the breathing of lungs and doctors said that he had only a 2% chance to live. The Primetime Emmy nominee said that he was in a coma for two weeks and spent five months in the hospital using a colostomy bag, which he had to continue using for another four months.
The late actor’s last appearance on screen was on Friends: Reunion in 2021. The show, Friends, was started in 1994 and its last episode was streamed in 2004.
