From Harrison Ford to Brie Larson, 5 Hollywood Stars Whose Career Took a Major Blow in 2023 With Box Office Bombs
Hollywood has had its ups and downs in 2023. While Margot Robbie’s Barbie and Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer had everyone joining the Barbeheimer cult, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Killers of the Flower Moon drew people’s attention to the injustice that the Osage people had to undergo. These were some of the best Hollywood movies released in 2023.
However, some movies did not do as well as they were expected to do. They turned out to be a disappointment for fans who had been eagerly awaiting their release. The movies in question could not even be saved from bombing at the box office by their talented casts that included a range of A-list stars.
Here is a list of the Hollywood stars whose movies gave a lackluster performance this year.
Harrison Ford
Harrison Ford is a Hollywood veteran who probably does not even need an introduction at this point. From portraying Han Solo in Star Wars to Rick Deckard in Blade Runner, he has hardly ever failed to win the hearts of the audience. However, this year came with an exception- Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Although this is not the first time Ford has played Indiana Jones, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the final film of the franchise, did not do as well as expected. Many attributed its failure to the lack of a good plot and its’ range of distracting visual effects.
Zachary Levi
Zachary Levi’s career breakthrough came with his starring role as Chuck in the eponymous action-drama TV series. He went on to voice the iconic characters of Flynn Rider in Tangled and Toby Seville in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.

Levi has also appeared as Fandral in the second and third installments of MCU’s Thor. Then came DCEU’s Shazam! in 2019, in which he played the eponymous DC superhero. While the first movie did great, the sequel, released earlier this year, struggled to impress fans as most found the movie to have a lack of good character development, in addition to a poor plot. Considering some of the controversial comments he has made regarding the franchise and James Gunn, only time can tell what the future holds for Levi.
Vin Diesel
Vin Diesel has some of the greatest performances to date. He has had quite the journey in Hollywood considering he went from portraying a Navy SEAL turned babysitter in The Pacifier to gaining a reputation as an action star for his work in the Fast & Furious and XXX franchises.
That being said, leaving some things alone at one point in time is for the best, but the makers of Fast & Furious seemed to ignore that. Consequently, it hardly comes as a surprise that the car chases and stunts in Fast X do not seem as much as exciting to the fans as they used to, and the movie was released to mixed reviews.
Paul Rudd
Paul Rudd has starred in movies of varied genres, from comedies to satire. His portrayal of Phoebe Buffay’s love interest Mike Hannigan in the NBC sitcom Friends continues to be iconic to date. While he had been quite recognized in Hollywood for a long time, he gained international recognition with the 2015 MCU movie Ant-Man.
Rudd’s portrayal of the shrinking superhero has been loved for years. However, his most recent project Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania failed to be up to the mark as it had some rather unimpressive visual effects and lacked sound character arcs. The response must have come as a huge shock to Marvel Studios.
Brie Larson
Brie Larson has successfully established herself as one of the best Hollywood actors of her generation. Her enchanting performances have won her numerous accolades over the years including an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award.

Larson is widely known for her portrayal of Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel in the MCU. She reprised the role in The Marvels, which was released last month. The movie became the lowest-grossing movie of the franchise with a collection of only $202 million despite all the enthusiasm surrounding it.
