Gal Gadot Refused To Do ‘Steamy Scene’ With Controversial Star Ezra Miller Despite Immense Pressure From the Director
Gal Gadot might have once proven that she is not afraid to take a stand, just like Wonder Woman herself. The Fast Five star put her foot down when Justice League director Joss Whedon asked her to do a ‘steamy scene’ with Ezra Miller. She wasn’t comfortable with the sequence, given the lascivious nature of the act. And she didn’t shy away from letting her director know where she stands, even though he threatened her career in the course of the shoot.
Joss Whedon and Gal Gadot had a disagreement over a scene
The reins of the DC Extended Universe were in the hands of Zack Snyder originally. And Justice League was supposed to be one of the turning points for the franchise. But a mishap was on the way. The 56-year-old director’s daughter died in the course of the movie’s shooting and he quit the movie soon after.
Enter Joss Whedon.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron director had already proved his mettle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But DC wasn’t going to be the same. The director couldn’t adapt to the Warner Bros. movie, and we all know what the result yielded. But it would be wrong to say that his inclusion didn’t pose other problems, including getting involved in a conflict with Gal Gadot.
Gal Gadot refused to act in a steamy scene with Ezra Miller
The 58-year-old ran into a disagreement with Gal Gadot over a scene in the film. In the sequence, the Flash, played by Ezra Miller, would fall over Gadot, with his hands on Wonder Woman’s breast. The scene didn’t sit right with the Red Notice star, who flatly refused to do anything of the sort.
But Whedon wouldn’t have that. The scene was a must. He found that it added some much-needed comic relief to the movie. But Gadot would have none of that. She didn’t want her character, who was a symbol of female empowerment, to be sexualized for comic relief. And Whedon went to the extent of threatening her career to ensure compliance.
Joss Whedon couldn’t make Gal Gadot bend to his will
Reflecting on what had transpired at the time the film was shot, the Israeli actress said,
“He kind of threatened my career and said if I did something, he would make my career miserable and I just took care of it on the spot.”
Her convictions were strong. She was not one to be deterred by these words. The 37-year-old stood her ground.
In the end, Whedon had to cast a body double to shoot the scene. But everyone knows that he didn’t have her way with Wonder Woman.
