Gege Akutami Killing Gojo Becomes Much Worse After Learning About Why They Never Planned on Killing Jujutsu Kaisen’s Most Hated Character
Jujutsu Kaisen over the past few years has gained an interesting reputation among fans for killing off characters that do relatively well with the fans. Though Gege gets called out for his sadistic way of writing, the popular writer was always given the benefit of the doubt by a majority of fans.
However, a recent post on X had a fan posting a statement by none other than Gege Akutami himself, which made it hard to defend against the allegations of him finding pleasure in watching his fans suffer. And Gege’s comment also certainly explained a whole lot when it came to some of his decisions to kill off characters in the series.
Revelation of Gege Akutami’s outlook on Mei-Mei completely changes the view of Gojo’s sacrifice
Despite Yuta Okkotsu using Gojo’s body right now in the manga to fight Sukuna, a majority of fans are still in denial of the death of the most popular character of the entire series. However, to add salt to the injury, a user on X posted a comment made by Gege talking about the reason why he decided to let Mei-Mei’s character avoid death, and not the other more likable characters.
Mei-Mei’s character, despite not being the best at times, does indeed have some fans who love the way she was drawn and written. However, it was revealed that her death in comparison with characters such as Gojo, Nanami, or Junpei, would not have impacted fans in the way that Gege had hoped to.
During an interview at a Jujutsu Kaisen Exhibition, when asked why Mei-Mei escaped the clutches of death unlike some other characters, Gege Akutami replied saying;
“I dont think a character should die if readers dont feel any emotion for them like sadness.”
GEGE’S ANSWER FROM THE JJK EXHIBITION
Q:
WHY DID MEI-MEI EXACTLY ESCAPE IN SHIBUYA AND SOMETHING ELSE(HINTED AT DEATH)DIDN’T HAPPEN TO HER?
GEGE A:
“I DON’T THINK A CHARACTER SHOULD DIE IF READERS DON’T FEEL ANY EMOTION FOR THEM LIKE SADNESS.”

This comment made by Gege certainly made all the accusations thrown at him about his sadistic nature appear quite true. And it certainly made the death of Gojo feel way worse, especially given how his fans might’ve played a part in his death. The Jujutsu Kaisen fandom certainly took the time to share their thoughts on Gege’s comment on X.
Fans React to Gege Akutami’s reasoning on killing off characters in Jujutsu Kaisen
Jujutsu Kaisen fans are certainly part of a fandom that has suffered a lot due to Gege’s decisions to kill off their favorite characters in the series. However, despite this, Gege Akutami has managed to make his sick style of writing work, making the Jujutsu Kaisen series one of the most popular to have ever aired.
However, Gege’s statement on his thought process of killing off characters in Jujutsu Kaisen had fans rushing to the comment section of the X post to call out the writer for his borderline sadistic response. Here are some of the comments from a repost of Gege Akutami’s statement on X.

Gege is a believer in building you up to tear you down at the very peak 😂. That’s one of my favorite types of writers. “The world shall know pain” type of anger lol

Given how destructive and close the fight between Yuta and Sukuna has been as of late, it certainly makes us wonder just how many more beloved characters are in Gege Akutami’s Death Note. The only thing fans can be sure of is that the series will most likely leave an impact on them
