That being said, Martin is kind enough to share updates with his fans every once in a while through blog posts which is as good as one expects it to be considering he has quite a bust schedule what with the writing and serving as the executive producer of the prequel series House of Dragon.

In his latest blog post, George R. R. Martin gave a long-awaited update on Winds of Winter as he wrote:

“I also found time to meet with my British publisher, and my other British publisher, to talk WILD CARDS and A SONG OF ICE & FIRE and (of course) THE WINDS OF WINTER.”

In late July of this year, Martin stated that he had been constantly writing and editing Winds of Winter as the production of the shows he was involved in was brought to a standstill due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike which ended recently. This new update, however, might have brought the novel one step closer to the announcement of the release date.

Speaking of it in his blog post, Martin wrote:

“Of course, I am hardly objective when talking about anything based on my own work… but I have to say, I thought both episodes were just great. (And they are not even finished yet). Dark, mind you. Very dark. They may make you cry. (I did not cry myself, but one of my friends did). Powerful, emotional, gut-wrenching, heart-rending. Just the sort of thing I like.”

A trailer for the highly anticipated second season, which is going to have the Targaryen Civil War as its central focus, was released not so long ago.
