Glen Powell’s Million-dollar Move With His New Project Distinguishes Him From Austin Butler and Timothée Chalamet in 1 Regard as He Collaborates With a Marvel Pro
- Glen Powell is switching careers with a sports-themed comedy series, 'Chad Powers.'
- Unlike Austin Butler and Timothée Chalamet, Powell is set to explore this new genre.
- Not only is he tapping into acting, but he will also serve with a Marvel expert.
Glen Powell, famous for his role in Top Gun: Maverick, is making a big career switch. Unlike his peers Austin Butler and Timothée Chalamet, Powell is jumping into a sports-themed comedy series called Chad Powers.
This move isn’t just a career change for him, it’s a smart play into a genre most of his rising star friends haven’t tackled yet. The actor’s jump into sports comedy could change his career path and bring new opportunities as well.
Glen Powell Ventures into an Unexplored Genre
Glen Powell is taking a funny leap into football with his new show, Chad Powers. The show, based on Eli Manning’s funny ESPN+ sketch, features the Hollywood star as Russ Holiday—a college quarterback who transforms into the goofy Chad Powers. The series will have 30-minute episodes.
This role lets Powell show off his athletic skills and possibly stretch his acting chops. He will also help write and produce the show, teaming up with Michael Waldron, the creator of Loki.
It’s a big step toward more varied roles, making him stand out from the usual Hollywood crowd. This move is noteworthy because neither Austin Butler nor Timothée Chalamet has done anything sports-related.
While Powell is diving into sports comedies, Butler and Chalamet are sticking with dramatic and fantastical roles. Butler wowed us as Elvis in the titular biopic, and Chalamet enchanted us with his roles in Wonka and the Dune sequel.
Glen Powell’s Update on Top Gun 3
Last month, Glen Powell gave a small update on Top Gun 3 during a live chat on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Powell said he has a set start date for Top Gun 3, but he didn’t clarify whether this means starting physical training, pilot training, or actual filming. When asked for more details, the 35-year-old simply said, “absolutely not.”
In January, Paramount Pictures announced they were officially making Top Gun 3. Powell is set to team up again with Tom Cruise and Miles Teller. The actor stated that when the news came out, he got a ton of texts with question marks, because everyone thought he knew more about the movie.
Powell hinted that exciting news about Top Gun 3 is coming, though he didn’t give details. The Austin native is in touch with the key players and joked he might get a jet soon! Top Gun: Maverick, featuring Powell as Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin, earned $1.49 billion worldwide (via Box Office Mojo), making it the 11th highest-grossing film ever.
Ehren Kruger is scripting the sequel, with talks about director Joseph Kosinski returning. However, nothing is confirmed yet. Powell’s other films, like the rom-com Anyone but You and the disaster movie Twisters, have also performed well, with Twisters earning $334 million in the U.S. (via The Numbers).
There’s no release date yet for Chad Powers, but it will stream on Hulu.
