1. Moneyball
Moneyball is all about taking risks, which the manager did. After finding themselves on a strict budget, GM Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) uses statistics to find undervalued players that the team could actually afford. Winning on numbers might seem like a fluke, but the Oakland Athletics went on to deliver a very long winning streak. The movie has suspense of thrill throughout and is one of the best underdog sports movies.
2. Rudy (1993)
Rudy follows the life of a young Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger, played by Sean Austin. The movie is based on a true story that focuses on the shortcomings of the said athlete, who just wants to play football for Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish. Rudy leaves a mark when he takes the field for the final play in the last season. It’s a thrilling and heartwarming story.
3. Invincible (2006)
Mark Wahlberg is a spot-on actor and Invincible was one of such performances. The movie is loosely based on a true story that focuses on a beat-down Philadelphia Eagles fan. Vince Papale (Wahlberg) lands a spot on the team after open pubic tryouts for the 1976 season. He secures the winning touchdown, ending the team’s losing streak.
4. Million Dollar Baby (2004)
This movie alone is enough to make you cry your eyes out. The movie stars Clint Eastwood (also the director), alongside Maggie Fitzgerald and Morgan Freeman. After Maggie (Fitzgerald) convinces Frankie (Eastwood) to train him, she goes on a winning streak, something that people had never seen before. However, she is sucker-punched in her last battle and breaks her neck. She ultimately dies, leaving the audience in splits.
5. Rocky (1976)
Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) became a household name after this movie. The movie is about a boxer who gets a shot at the world heavyweight championship against Apollo Creed. Even though he loses to Creed on a split decision, his journey and dedication are enough to make you get up and do something. The movie won 3 Oscars and was written by Stallone himself.
