Pratt’s popularity is not limited to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. His voice role as Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie has also contributed to his box office success. The film opened in April and was predicted to earn around $250 million in its opening weekend, but it is now aiming for a higher score.

However, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has already become Hollywood’s latest success story, with strong performances in both domestic and international markets after debuting with a gross of around $110 million, knocking The Super Mario Bros. Movie down to the second place for the first time since its premiere last month.

Guardians 3 has also performed well overseas, earning $170.9 million from 52 markets for a worldwide debut of $289.3 million.

Despite competition from Chinese films, the movie performed surprisingly well in China, taking the top spot with $28.1 million in its opening weekend. It has also been a hit in South Korea and is performing well in other markets across Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 opened on par with the recent Marvel hit Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and is expected to continue the franchise’s tradition of kicking off the summer season at the box office.

All You Need To Know About Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, everyone’s beloved gang of outside superheroes looked a little different than the last time fans saw them. The Guardians were still grieving the loss of Gamora, who sacrificed herself in the 2018 film Avengers: Infinity War.

Meanwhile, Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Nebula (Karen Gillian) were now official members of the Guardian group.

After eight years of Guardians movies, with Vol. 1 premiering in 2014, the director had confirmed that Vol. 3 would be the final installment of the franchise, and the cast wrapped filming in May 2022. On Instagram, he expressed his love for the cast and crew,

“I love this amazing cast & crew & their beautiful talent & kind souls. I’m a lucky human to have them on the journey with me for nearly a decade.”

While Gunn may have been sad to say goodbye to the Guardians, Dave Bautista, who played Drax, admitted that filming was often difficult. In an interview, he said,

“I’m so grateful for Drax. I love him. But there’s a relief [that it’s over]. It wasn’t all pleasant, he said in an interview with GQ Hype. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down.”

The film’s first official trailer, released in December 2022, teased character flashbacks, battles, and classic funny banter between the Guardians. The second trailer, released in February 2023, featured Gamora, who had come back to life with no memory of her relationship with Peter Quill.

The official synopsis for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 revealed that Quill was still grieving the loss of Gamora and had to rally his team to defend the universe and protect one of their own.

The cast included plenty of familiar faces like Saldana as Gamora, Bautista as Drax, Gillan as Nebula, Klementieff as Mantis, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, and Sean Gunn as Kraglin Obfonteri and new cast members included Will Poulter as Adam Warlock and Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary.
