  • Josh Brolin reportedly offered the role in DCU's upcoming Lanterns series.

  • Fans might not be on board with Brolin playing the character in the television series, suggests Glen Powell instead.

Son of actor James Brolin, Josh Brolin is widely known for his portrayal of Thanos in Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite being the super-villain, the actor’s performance was highly appreciated by the audience and the critics. He later signed a four-film contract with 20th Century Fox for the portrayal of Cable in the Deadpool series. Brolin only played the character in 2018’s Deadpool 2 and was set to reprise his character in the X-Force movie until Disney acquired 20th Century Fox.

Brolin was not a part of Deadpool & Wolverine; however, he did join Denis Villeneuve’s critically acclaimed movie Dune as Gurney Halleck. Now, reports have suggested that Josh Brolin could be very soon joining James Gunn’s DCU. Fans might not be on board with this idea, though.

Reports suggest Josh Brolin offered the role of Hal Jordan for the DCU Lanterns series

According to Nexus Point News and The InSneider, Marvel’s supervillain actor Josh Brolin has been offered the role of Hal Jordan for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU’s upcoming Lanterns series. However, the actor has not yet responded to the news.

World of Reel describes that the series is going to tackle two intergalactic cops, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, who will be investigating a murder in the American heartland. Actor Nathan Fillion, who is set to portray Guy Gardner in Superman, is also expected to join the series in the supporting role.

It was reported that the series will have eight episodes, and Casey Bloys, Chairman/CEO of HBO and MAX content, shared with Variety earlier in June.

We are elated to be reuniting with both Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof as they partner with Tom King for this fresh take on DC’s Green Lantern. As a part of James and Peter’s vision for the DC Universe, this first new live-action series will mark an exciting new era.

James Gunn had previously shared about the project, stating that it’s going to be a couple of Green Lanterns, John Stewart and Hal Jordan. (via CBR) He also shared that they have a few other Lanterns peppered, but this series is a terrestrial-based TV show, which he described as True Detective with a couple of Green Lanterns who are space cops watching over Precinct Earth. Gunn concluded that the space cops discover a terrifying mystery that ties into the large story of DCU.

Ryan Reynolds had previously portrayed the character in 2011 Green Lantern. The movie upon release received negative reviews, especially due to its unfaithfulness to the source material. The studios at the time had intended for the movie to be a franchise based on the character, but after the disappointment it faced upon release, the studios decided to scrap any plans they had for the movie’s sequel.

Fans might not be on board with Josh Brolin as Hal Jordan

Actor Josh Brolin, who is turning 57 next year, brings in a lot of experience to play the character if he accepts. With his stint as Thanos, Cable, and Jonah Hex, the actor has shown the audience his capability to play complex characters on-screen. This makes him a suitable candidate to play Hal Jordan in the upcoming series, which is described by HBO as Lantern Legend, pointing out that maybe the character is a more mature and mentor-like version of the character.

Fans, however, do not seem thrilled with the idea of Brolin playing the character, especially with actors like Glen Powell, Chris Pratt, and more who have proved their skills as actors and are young to play a character for years to come. A user mentioned on X

Too old. Hal Jordan is young in the comics.

Another user seemed to have agreed by stating that Brolin seems old and suggested why not Glen Powell. A user pointed out that Brolin is a great actor, but he doesn’t strike as a perfect fit for Hal Jordan, noting that his age feels like an issue, especially if the studios want to keep using the character for years.

Ardent fans commented that studios should stop dragging Marvel actors into DC. Another X user pointed out that they like the idea, but the actor seems old for the character he’s been offered to play. They mentioned that the studios should have a younger actor for Hal Jordan so that they can develop it and build it longer.

Neither Josh Brolin nor his representative has commented on the offer made to him.
