In a recent Instagram post, Halsey uploaded a series of videos and pictures that show how she struggles with an unknown illness. However, the singer mentioned both the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Lupus Research Alliance in her post, which led to speculations about her state of health.

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can be fatal as well, and it seems to be the culprit behind Halsey’s issues. In the first video of the post, Halsey is seen talking with someone, saying,

I feel like an old lady. I told myself I’m giving myself two more years to be sick. At 30, I’m having a rebirth and I’m not gonna be sick and I’m gonna look super hot and have so much energy and just get to re-do my 20s in my 30s.

In the post, she is also seen singing her song The End, which features some lyrics that depict her health condition. The lyrics say,

Every couple of years now, a doctor says I’m sick / Pulls out a brand new bag of tricks / And then they lay it on me / And at first, it was my brain, then a skeleton in pain / And I don’t like to complain, but I’m saying sorry.

Moreover, although Halsey hasn’t revealed her diagnosis exactly, she will be donating the money earned from her album to Lupus Research Alliance and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, according to CBS.

Lupus is an auto-immune disease that targets various organs and tissues in the body. The actual cause of the disease is still unknown. However, it can be caused by genetics, infections, environmental factors, and other complications. Moreover, it affects women more than men. The common symptoms include rashes, joint pain, shortness of breath, anxiety, dry eyes, and headaches.

Lupus has affected several celebrities. Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez have been open about their struggles with the illness so that people do not continue to misunderstand this disease.

Pop icon Selena Gomez has been in a battle with lupus. It was diagnosed in 2013 and was treated through chemotherapy and even a life-threatening kidney transplant by her friend Francia Raisa in 2017.

Gomez’s battle with lupus has had its highs and lows, but she has never given up. From getting treatment for panic attacks and depression resulting from her health complications to talking openly about mental health, Gomez has debunked myths about illnesses.

In a cover story on Billboard, Gomez talked about her Lupus diagnosis, chemotherapy, and hesitance to open up about it. She said,

I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke…I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy… I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.

During an interview with ELLE, Gomez talked about her struggle with bipolar disorder, which was diagnosed in 2018. She said,

I felt a huge weight lifted off me when I found out. I could take a deep breath and go, ‘OK, that explains so much.’

While interacting with NPR, Gomez opened up about how advanced medication, therapy, and a proper diet helped her get back on track. Although she said that the treatment played a major part in her recovery, it is a never-ending process to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
