House of the Dragon season 2 is here! And now, fans of the Game of Thrones prequel can enjoy more Targaryen drama and family feuds. To celebrate the premiere, which landed right on Father’s Day, Rotten Tomatoes interviewed some of the show’s stars.

Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and Fabien Frankel joined in the fun, but things got interesting when the interview turned to Westeros’ worst dads. The actors were asked to rank the show’s fathers, and their answers might surprise you. They shared some unexpected (and maybe even a bit unsettling) truths about Westerosi parenting, too!

In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower in the hit show House of the Dragon, first admitted that the worst dads were the obvious choices: Daemon, known for his chaotic ways, and Aegon, the reckless heir. But the other actors disagreed.

Fabien Frankel, who plays Ser Criston Cole, argued that Alicent’s own father, Otto Hightower, was even worse. Otto manipulates his family for his own gain. That wasn’t enough for Matt Smith, who portrays Prince Daemon. He then pointed out that at least Otto spends time with his children, unlike the absentee father Daemon!

The interview then turned into a full-on ranking. After much debate, Lord Corlys Velaryon, the powerful Sea Snake, took the gold medal for fatherhood. The cast recognized him for his genuine love and support for his kids. Harwin Strong, a strong contender, came in a close second.

King Viserys, known for his indecisiveness but good intentions, landed in third place. Even the unpredictable Prince Daemon, with his chaotic ways, managed to snag fourth. It was even worse for Otto Hightower. The always plotting Hand of the King only did better than the extremely cruel Aegon II Targaryen, who was (unanimously!) chosen as the worst dad in all of Westeros.

After the intense first episode of Season 2 of House of the Dragon, HBO dropped a new trailer giving us a sneak peek at what’s next. The two-minute clip features Aegon declaring war after his young son’s death, while Rhaenyra struggles with how to fight back.

The trailer shows there’s going to be a full-blown war, and both sides are planning their moves. Aemond argues that armies are just as important as dragons, while Criston Cole thinks taking control of Harrenhal is key to winning.

The first episode ended dramatically, leaving fans reeling. Blood and Cheese, acting on Daemon’s orders, brutally killed Aegon and Helaena’s six-year-old son. This act of violence sets the stage for a bloody conflict known as the Dance of the Dragons.
