Harry Potter Star Helena Bonham Carter Threatened to Divorce Director for a Strange Reason Before He Eventually Left Her for Monica Bellucci

In a surprising turn of events, acclaimed actress Helena Bonham Carter had once issued an ultimatum for director Tim Burton just to make her place in the musical slasher film Sweeney Todd. Helena Bonham Carter who is known for her roles in movies like Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland and many more had once threatened director Tim Burton with a divorce just to get a role in the movie Sweeney Todd.

Helena Bonham Carter Once Threatened Tim Burton with Divorce for a Movie Role

As per the reports, the acclaimed actress Helena Bonham Carter had once threatened to leave Tim Burton for a lead role in his movie. Back then Burton was working on Sweeney Tod a musical slasher film that starred Johnny Depp. In this movie, Johnny Depp played the role of the lead actor who was a serial killer murdering his customer. Whereas Bonham Carter played Depp’s accomplice in the horror feature.

Bonham-Carter was in love with the role and had given Tim Burton early notice that no matter what she wanted to play the role in the movie. Even though Burton agreed to this he wanted her to give the audition for the role just like the other actors.

Recalling the moment Bonham-Carter said “He said, ‘You know, it’s up to you.’ And I said, “Of course – of course, I’ll go for it, because if I don’t get the part, at least I’ll have learned to sing or had the voice lessons that I’ve always wanted to do, so I went to a singing teacher.”

Even though Bonham-Carter auditioned for the role, she was very adamant that if she did not get the role, it wouldn’t be good for her relationship with Burton. Talking about this Bonham-Carter said “I auditioned for my role – although I’d have divorced divorced Tim if I hadn’t got it. In fact, we’re not even married, but I’d have still divorced him.” 

Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton’s Eventual Split

Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton were never married in the first place. Although the couple was together for almost 13 years which is similar to some of the married couples. Considering this long-time relationship of theirs, Bonham-Carter always referred to their split as a divorce.

Even though there has not been any specific statement from the couple for the reason for their separation, it has been speculated that Tim Burton left Bonham Carter for Monica Bellucci.
