Several alternate-world characters from the Marvel universe, including Black Bolt, Captain Marvel, Reed Richards, and Charles Xavier, made spectacular cameo appearances in the film. The anticipation for these appearances, however, was diminished by a shocking turn of events, in which all the characters, including Captain Carter, met a horrifying ending. In Doctor Strange 2: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Hayley Atwell returned as Peggy Carter. Even though she only had a cameo appearance, her admirers were thrilled to see her. Sadly, her character was only on the screen for a short while.

Peggy Carter appears in the film as a member of the Illuminati, a team of superheroes from a different Earth, who illogically passes away when Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, uses a “frisbee” to fatally slash her in half. She spoke openly about how she felt in an interview and said, “That wasn’t my choice!” Atwell further states that her frustration was increased by the fact that Peggy’s passing occurred immediately after she uttered Captain America’s slogan, “I could do this all day.”

In contrast, Hayley Atwell emphasized her satisfaction with her voice role as Peggy Carter in the animated series What If…?  She was able to learn more about the character and discover interesting alternate plotlines thanks to the animated series. Compared to her live-action cameo in Doctor Strange 2, the actress considered the voice role to be more fulfilling because it allowed her to expand on Peggy’s journey beyond what was seen in the films.
