HBO’s Harry Potter Series Making Eddie Redmayne’s 1 Wish Come True Could Help it Create Its Mark Despite Love For Original Films
- Fans love the original Harry Potter movies, but they would not mind a fresh perspective on the universe.
- Eddie Redmayne wanted his magizoologist Newt Scamander to meet this original Harry Potter character.
- Newt was alive when the third novel, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban takes place.
The last original Harry Potter film was released more than a decade ago, and yet all this time has done nothing to curb the audience’s love for this particular franchise. This love has now led to HBO launching a series that will be adapted from the books under the supervision of author J.K. Rowling.
In 2016, the franchise made a brief comeback through the spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them led by Eddie Redmayne. While promoting the movie, the actor expressed the wish to see his character, Newt Scamander meet a character from the original Harry Potter universe. Now that there is an entire series in the making, maybe his wish can be made to come true.
HBO’s Harry Potter Series Could Make Eddie Redmayne’s Wish Come True
The love for the Wizarding World and the Harry Potter universe in particular transcends age and borders. No matter how young or old people are or where they live, the world will always share a mutual love for the franchise. So, as much as everyone loves the original films, they would never say ‘No’ to a fresh perspective on that world.
In 2016, the first Fantastic Beasts movie was released. It shows how the magizoologist, Newt Scamander’s love for magical beasts leads him to new places when some of them escape his magical briefcase which houses many creatures and their habitats.
Ahead of the movie’s release, Eddie Redmayne sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly. During this interview, he was asked which character from the Harry Potter universe he would like Newt to meet. He responded:
I think a Newt and Ron scene would be quite enjoyable. I think those guys would find each other quite intriguing. Ron and Newt would have quite a good time. I’m not sure a huge amount would be achieved.
Now, Ronald Weasley may not be a fan of the magical creatures he has had encounters with, but it would definitely be fun to see him interact with Newt. The upcoming HBO series has the chance to make this happen and hence, make a mark of its own instead of sticking to the books and original films.
Is It Actually Possible to Introduce Newt to the Original Universe?
While Newt meeting Ron sounds like a very exciting prospect, the question that would come to everyone’s mind is whether or not this can happen. Even if we keep aside the fact that this is the Wizarding World where anything can happen, it is very much possible for the series to make it happen because Newt made his debut in the third original film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
What some might find even more surprising is the fact that Newt is not just a name mentioned in a textbook in the movie. In fact, he appears to be very much alive as his name can be seen on the Marauders’ Map that is in Harry’s possession.
According to Harry Potter Wiki, Newt was born in 1897 and the third novel takes place in 1994. So, Newt was alive at 97, which does not come as much of a surprise since he was friends with a young Albus Dumbledore who is still very much alive and working as the Headmaster of the wizardry school in the third novel.
As for what could Newt be possibly doing at Hogwarts, perhaps he was there to meet Dumbledore or for a consultation regarding one of the magical creatures at Hogwarts. This novel was also the one in which hippogriff Buckbeak was introduced and Newt’s mother bred hippogriffs so there is a chance that the magizoologist was there for him. Either way, the HBO series can bring Newt in briefly if the creators want to.
