“He asked me if I was in the OG films”: Natalie Portman’s Hilarious Reply to King Charles Asking Her About Star Wars Left Fans Highly Amused
The Israeli-American actress Natalie Portman has had quite an admirable career, with an Academy Award and two Golden Globe Awards to her name. Portman has done some brilliant films such as Léon: The Professional, Black Swan, Jackie, Closer, V for Vendetta, and many more. However, one of her most iconic roles was that of Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. She even managed to wow King Charles, who appeared in the premiere of the first movie, Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace.
In a recent interview, she opened up about the hilarious encounter with Prince Charles during the premiere, and it has left fans on social media short of breath due to laughter.
What did Natalie Portman say to King Charles?
In her recent appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, Natalie Portman opened up about her Star Wars role and how she was more than willing to come back and reprise Padmé Amidala if given a chance in the future. When Cohen probed the May December star to tell everyone about her experience of meeting King Charles during the premiere of Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace, she had quite a hilarious anecdote to share.
“I remember Prince Charles—he was then Prince Charles—asked me if I was in the originals.”
This was already funny and gained laughs from Cohen and the audience as the original Star Wars trilogy wrapped up 16 years before Phantom Menace with Return of the Jedi (1983). Portman continued and said the following:
“I was like, ‘No, I’m 18!’ But he was very friendly.”
When Culture Crave posted about it on X, it sparked a meme fest out of the entire situation:

It is not the first time Natalie Portman has opened up about her hilarious meeting with King Charles. In a 1999 BBC News article, Portman said that King Charles had asked her whether she appeared in any other Star Wars movie and how her experience was working with George Lucas. Portman replied in a perplexed manner, saying that she was not even born during the first Star Wars film.
Natalie Portman says she would never show her breasts for a role
Natalie Portman recently appeared in The Drew Barrymore Show, where she opened up about her boundaries when it comes to Hollywood and acting. In the show, there was a pop quiz segment where she was asked what the one thing she would never do for a role was. She replied with hesitation:
“Um … show my boobs? Is that really prude?”
When Barrymore supportively said, “No, it’s not!” Portman further opened up by saying that:
“I’m just always like, ‘I don’t want my kids to see pictures online,’ “
Then Drew Barrymore said jokingly that she did not think there would be an online world when she did it:
“I didn’t know there’d be an ‘online’ when I did it. I was like, ‘Good luck finding that magazine under some weird guy’s bed in some random house!’ But no judgement, darlings.”
Natalie Portman has two kids; son Aleph, 12, and daughter Amalia, 6, with husband Benjamin Millepied.
Portman’s recent movie May December is out on Netflix.
