In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Jamie Foxx walked down memory lane and revisited scenes from some of his greatest movies. One of which was Django Unchained. In the sequence, he and Samuel L. Jackson can be seen exchanging a few dialogues. Foxx spoke about how this film was an all-star game. He and Christoph Waltz worked together for 12 weeks before any other star came on the set.

He spoke about how suddenly, while filming with Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jackson made an entrance with their vapes. Foxx then further revealed how DiCaprio went through a hard time while saying the ‘N-word’:

Here was the thing, though, the subject matter, the N-word. Specifically, Leo had a hard time saying the N-word. We’re doing a read and Leo says ‘Hey, man, hey guys, cut. I just can’t do this. This isn’t me.’ Samuel Jackson goes, ‘Say that sh*t, motherf*cker. It’s just another Tuesday. F*ck them.’ And I totally, I said, ‘Leo, you know, in slavery days, we would never talk to each other. I am not your friend, I am not Jamie Foxx. I am Django. And as I told him, ‘You won’t be able to play that character unless you really understand what slavery was about. It was tough, it was horrific.’

So, what happened the next day? After the read, when the actors came on set, Foxx saw DiCaprio walking in. Foxx called out his name twice, and he didn’t talk to him. He then told the outlet, “He don’t speak to me, he ready. So everybody started digging in.”
