- Sandra Bullock has worked with numerous actors over the years and Keanu Reeves happens to be one of her favorites.
- Bullock once struggled to put her admiration for co-star Matthew McConaughey into words after working with him in A Time to Kill.
- Bullock and McConaughey's romance did not last long, but they seem to have no hard feelings towards each other at all.
Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves have one of the best friendships in Hollywood. Although their relationship has often been speculated to be beyond platonic due to Bullock’s admitted crush on her co-star, their relationship has never gone beyond pure admiration and respect for each other.
On numerous occasions, Bullock has openly marveled about Reeves, but there is also another co-star whom she seems to deeply admire. This co-star happens to be the charming Matthew McConaughey, who was typecast as the lead star of rom-coms for years before he decided to break out of that image.
Sandra Bullock Struggled to Find the Right Words to Describe Matthew McConaughey
Sandra Bullock is one of the most prominent actresses in Hollywood. She began gaining traction in the industry alongside Keanu Reeves after they starred in the 1994 action thriller Speed. The movie was director Jan de Bont’s feature film debut and won two Academy Awards. Post this success, Bullock and Reeves went on to land several other movies.
One of these movies was the 1996 legal drama A Time to Kill, which starred Bullock, Matthew McConaughey, and Samuel L. Jackson in lead roles. The film, adapted from John Grisham’s eponymous novel, was not so much of a critical success but did fairly well on the commercial front with a worldwide gross of $152.2 million (via Box Office Mojo).
Another good thing that came out of this film was Bullock’s appreciation for her co-star McConaughey, who seemed to have left her quite literally struggling for the right words to describe him, in an interview with Rolling Stone.
Matthew just had a spark to him. He gets a joke that nobody else gets, has a rhythm to himself. Ask me to describe him. I can’t even begin to pull enough people together.
Even so, The Proposal star managed to pull some people together to try to describe him.
Take a little Will Rogers, a little Paul Newman and then some bizarre character actor, some totally whacked nut case like Boxcar Willie. And then you take a six-year-old, and you mesh that all together; that’s kind of close. But there’s nobody like him.
The stars even dated for some time but managed to keep their relationship notoriously private. They split amicably and seem to have no hard feelings towards each other.
Sandra Bullock on How She Managed to Stay Friends with Matthew McConaughey
It is not very often that people remain on good terms after their relationship ends, but then Bullock and McConaughey have always been extraordinary in their own ways. They have remained friends even after their split.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan, The Blind Side actress was asked how they have managed to keep the split amicable. She replied:
It’s the work we both put in. There’s a great amount of respect and love. I feel very cared for by Matthew. No matter where he is in his life or where I am in mine—he could be married—I know we would stay close.
That was, in fact, true, because a decade or so later, Bullock posed with McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves on the red carpet in 2013. Additionally, she was also presented with the Decade of Hotness Award at Spike TV’s Guys Choice Awards (via Entertainment Tonight) in 2014 by McConaughey and two of her other leading men, Keanu Reeves and Hugh Grant.
