“He paid his dues and he established this show”: Kelly Ripa Changes Stance After Accusing Regis Philbin of Massive Ego, Claims She Wouldn’t Have Worked If She Knew The Full Story
American actress Kelly Ripa has shared some of the unexpected honest collection of short stories in her new book, Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories. She is recently making headlines for clarifying her relationship with late TV presenter Regis Philbin who worked alongside her for nearly a decade as host of Live!
In the latest interview, the actress opened up about her journey of Live! and sharing her views on whether she would work there again if she was aware of the full story that was going on behind the scenes.
Kelly Ripa Won’t Do The Show Had She Known The Whole Drama
The 52-year-old actress, Kelly Ripa would choose not to do the Live! show if she knew about its drama. “I wouldn’t have done it. No,” she shared when asked about working with late TV host Regis Philbin on Tuesday’s episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast.
She continued, “If I had known going in, I wouldn’t have done it. And how sad for me. How sad for me. Luckily, ignorance is bliss … that saying is true. Ignorance is bliss.”
She further shared how she was unaware of the dispute between the network and the late TV host when she began as a TV host for that show. “I didn’t know that there was so much infighting between these two factions and that I was considered like a network girl, which is so ridiculous.”
She further shared, “It was sort of explained to me [that there were] these two battling forces within the company that I didn’t even know existed.”
The American actress also went on to explain the hardships that she felt when she joined the show. “I was hyper-sensitive to the feelings all around me that this was like new and unusual terrain I was wading into,” she shared.
She also went on to support the Guinness World Record holder stating, “He should not have had to have a host assigned to him. That’s not fair. He paid his dues and he established this show.”
The author has previously shared how people misjudged her relationship with her former co-host in her new memoir.
She Shared Her Relationship With Regis Philbin in Her New Memoir
Back in 2011, Regis Philbin retired from ABC’s talk show after working with Ripa for a decade. In her memoir, Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories, she described her early days of the talk show as “the hardest chapter” for her.
She wrote how “It took years to earn my place there and earn things that are routinely given to the men I worked with.” She shared that those days were not a cakewalk for her, recalling an incident where her former co-host teased her, which made her realize that he did not want her to be his co-host. But she also shared having good memories with the late TV host.
