Glen Powell is one of the emerging actors in Hollywood, and luckily, he has had the chance to work with one of the best actors in the industry. While working on the movie Top Gun: Maverick, he had the guidance of none other than Tom Cruise, who is not only one of the most talented actors in the industry but also one of the highest-grossing ones.

In a cover story for an esteemed publication, Powell revealed how he had become close friends with Cruise while working on the movie. He even recalled some of his fondest memories with the A-lister and one of them was when Cruise gave him access to something that the public would never get to experience.

In a GQ UK cover story, it is revealed that Glen Powell had actually auditioned for the role of Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw in the Top Gun sequel, but that role went to Footloose star Miles Teller. Cruise was so impressed with the Anyone But You actor that he offered him the role of Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin.

Powell, however, wanted to make sure that his character had value so he told his point of view to Cruise and he listened. This shared interest in giving their best performances seems to be what helped the two artists to bond. Soon, Powell was in Cruise’s inner circle, which gave him some privileges that not many people are lucky enough to have.

One of these privileges was getting to watch a movie the Edge of Tomorrow star had made especially for his friends. Imagine watching a six-hour film starring Tom Cruise in which he is directly talking to you about things he is passionate about- making films and flying! Add to that, being the only person in the theater to do that. We can’t relate but Powell can.

In the cover story, GQ UK reports that Powell was sent to a Los Angeles film theatre to show him a “film school” video that Cruise had put together for his friends. The Hit Man star shared his experience, saying:

[In the video Cruise] is like: ‘Do we all agree that this is what a camera is? This is the difference between a film camera and a digital camera…’ The funniest part is on flying. It was like he put together this entire flight school.

It is no secret that Cruise is a licensed pilot, but what many might not know is that Powell too has a license for flying (via Instagram). So, after they were done making Top Gun: Maverick, he made sure his new friend also knew the skill by paying for his flight school as a Christmas present.
