Dwayne Johnson was super close to voicing The Boulder in Avatar: The Last Airbender, as revealed by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. The creators had a strong desire to cast Johnson since the character was made in his honor, but just because he wasn’t doing television projects at that time, the role was given to Mick Foley, another wrestler who previously fought with The Rock.

Real Reason Why Dwayne Johnson Didn’t Voice The Boulder in Avatar: The Last Airbender

It’s been more than a decade since Avatar: The Last Airbender came out and gave fans a reason to tune in to Nickelodeon regularly. One of the big names associated with the voice cast of the original animated show was Dwayne Johnson. It was before the wrestler-turned-actor transformed into a big star in the entertainment world when the creators modeled The Boulder after him.

The creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko revealed on the Avatar: Braving the Elements podcast, their strong desire to welcome Dwayne Johnson in their show. However, the Black Adam star couldn’t accept the offer just because he wasn’t active in the television world. DiMartino said:

“This was before he was like the Rock as we know him now, but he was definitely on that trajectory, and since [the Boulder] was modeled after him, we tried to get him to be the voice, but he was not doing television at the time.”

Dwayne Johnson’s agents informed the creators of the show that he wouldn’t be able to join the cast as The Boulder. However, the show was lucky enough to have Mick Foley on board, and his voicing felt like “him doing an impression of his buddy”. Foley and Johnson share a good camaraderie and have even wrestled against each other.
