Here’s Why Sony Seems Non Committed To PlayStation Now
Sony has been splashing a lot on Playstation recently. The biggest of this involved a price reduction. They slashed its prices in half. Which means that users now have to pay just $10 a month. This is on par with the prices put forth by some of its biggest competitors around like Xbox Game Pass. According to Playstation’s head honcho Jim Ryan, this simply means that Sony is taking PlayStation really seriously. It also means that going forth it is going to be a huge part of the brand as it begins transitions from PS4 to PS5. However, there is one killer Xbox Game Pass feature that Sony has no intention of adding to PlayStation Now.
No New Games On PlayStation Now On Release
Sony doesn’t plan on releasing its big exclusives into PlayStation Now when those titles launch. Users will know that all games from Xbox Games Studios are put on Xbox Game Pass when they eventually release. In the past, this simply meant that Xbox Game Pass owners got to play the latest games like Gears 5 and Sea of Thieves right when they released. But PlayStation has no plans on with doing this with its own games. This comes a few months after it was announced that only premium PlayStation users will be able to avail the latest games. The games could eventually come to PlayStation Now, but certainly not at launch.
No Certainty When New Games Will Come To PlayStation Now
When asked about it by GamesIndustry, Jim Ryan said that:
“It’s an area that is fast changing and fluid. The nature and scale of some of the first-party games that we are making leads us to think that, right now, it’s better to spend energy on making sure that the launch of those games is a massive entertainment event. I would cite God of War and Spider-Man, and The Last of Us 2 next year will fall into that category. That’s where we stand right now. But our stance on the inclusion of first-party games in PS Now in terms of what we’ve done this month is very different to our stance 12 months ago. I don’t want to say this is what PS Now is going to be like forever. But certainly right now, given how some of our first party IP is incredibly special and valuable, we just want to treat them with amazing care and respect, and have those launches be clean and pure.”
Take that as you will, but it certainly seems like Sony isn’t that committed to Playstation Now.
