During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, James Wan talked about Black Manta aka David Hyde’s vendetta against Aquaman in the second installment is the result of the personal tragedy that happened in the first movie. He added:

“Here’s the really cool thing. What I love about Black Manta is just how single-minded he is. He’s like a shark, right? All he cares about is killing Arthur, destroying Arthur, and destroying everything that Arthur cares about because he holds Aquaman responsible for the death of his father. That’s from the comic book that we love.”

The director emphasized Black Manta’s only motive to transform into the worst adversary of Aquaman since he debuted in the comic books. James Wann said:

“The great thing is we’ve established his character’s motivation in the first movie. In this one, we can really just jump straight into it and see what it is that he’s trying to do.”

The Conjuring 2 maker explained that even though Black Manta isn’t a superhero, his passion for achieving his goal which is of course destroying Aquaman is extremely strong, and being an expert in underwater combat, he uses his powers to great effect.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is arguably DC’s highly anticipated movie of this year and with the anticipation and excitement of fans, James Wann once shared that filming the movie was quite painful for Jason Momoa. According to CinemaBlend, while talking about his project, the director revealed that:

“On the first movie, we really put the actors through a lot of physical pain, you know hanging them on wires and what we call tuning forks. It was not the most comfortable apparatus to be strapped into. With this film we were able to now embrace new technology where we literally captured…literally putting like 100 cameras on the actors, capturing their performances and then taking what they do and then applying that to 3D version of themselves.”

Despite the struggles and challenges the Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom‘s team faced, they managed to enjoy the filming process. James Wan further explained the work of other helpers in the movie which will undeniably contribute to its success.
