“He’s thinking of everything”: James Gunn is Beyond Confident That His Superman Film Won’t Suffer Same Fate As Spider-Man: No Way Home With Plot Leaks, Here’s Why
James Gunn’s Superman is one of the highly anticipated movies and will star David Corenswet in the titular role alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Superman is the first movie in Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe and a reboot of the Superman film series. Corenswet will be replacing Henry Cavill as the DC superhero.
The movie will reportedly showcase the superhero’s journey to reconcile his alien heritage with his human family. DC’s Superman is scheduled for release in July 2025 and already shares one thing in common with Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: No Way Home.
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn addresses Superman set leaks
Filmmaker James Gunn is the director and writer for DC Studios’ highly anticipated first movie, Superman, starring David Coresnswet as Superman. The filmmaker unveiled the first look from the set back in May when he shared a picture of the cast on his social media.
Later, fans received unofficial pictures of Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and more. Ardent fans were disappointed to witness the leaked pictures circulate online, as they believe that it just spoils the fun of waiting to see how the actors look in their respective costumes on-screen.
Gunn, in replying to a fan on Threads, addressed the set leaks by stating that he knew that the set leaks would happen. He replied to a question from a fan where they asked him if any leaked images contained spoilers for the movie.
Not even a little. I’d never shoot a big spoiler outside in the middle of the city.
He’s thinking of EVERYTHING.

James Gunn also confirmed that House of the Dragon actress Milly Alcock, who is reportedly going to play Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, will not appear in Superman. Fans went ahead to appreciate the filmmaker for being alert to the fact that set leaks could happen. One user wrote, ‘He’s thinking everything’, while another mentioned, ‘You can’t spoil the experience of watching a good movie’.
Lol, these set leaks are serving as a medium to boost the public's enthusiasm before the movie date… He knows what he's doing.

Superman‘s set leaks remind fans of Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s plot and cast leaks
Despite Gunn being confident about Superman’s set leak not being a spoiler for the movie, some fans point out that it’s very similar to how Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures were confident about Spider-Man: No Way Home, when spoilers from the movie had leaked.
Alfred Molina, who returned as Doctor Octopus, for Spider-Man: No Way Home was spotted on the sets at the time, after which he revealed in an interview with Variety that he’d be de-aged for the comeback. He also called himself the worst secret keeper in Hollywood.
Apart from him, actor Jamie Foxx also confirmed his return as Electro in 2020. The most anticipated return of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire was kept a tight-lipped secret, but eagle-eyed fans and paparazzi were quicker than the studios, and Garfield was reportedly spotted on set. The actor later denied the same when he appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He tried to convince the audience that the pictures were fake and not real.
However, the set and plot leaks did go on to affect the movie’s overall image, despite it performing well at the box office. The fans who saw the spoilers online weren’t really happy about it when they went to the theaters to watch it. With Superman, Gunn does seem confident that the set leaks are not going to leak any important plot element from the upcoming movie, but with the speed of the images being released from the set, ardent fans are concerned.
The fans wholeheartedly wait for movies, especially from DC and Marvel, and try to avoid spoilers that they come across to enjoy the world-class experience upon its release, but constant leaks spoil the mindset of the moviegoers.
Superman is scheduled for release in July 2025.
