Playing two very different characters simultaneously in a movie is anyway a big task for any actor, and Hardy is playing Eddie Brock, who reacts very differently when bonded with Venom. However, there is an interesting story behind Hardy’s creation of the voice of the symbiote.

How Tom Hardy Came Up With Venom’s Voice

Tom Hardy plays Eddie Brock, who gets bonded with the Venom symbiote and becomes a bipolar entity. So, his role requires him to switch mannerisms and actions from time to time. Along with that, the most significant change that he has to play through is the voice of Venom.

It is like double duty for Hardy, but the actor is already experienced with portraying multiple voices and accents. Fans still remember the creepy voice of Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. However, for Venom, Hardy has taken a rather funny inspiration. In an interview on Jake’s Takes, the actor revealed,

I used that voice for my dog, when I’m doing impressions of my dog talking to me, like at home…sort of a variable a variant of that and that’s kind of a mixture of Busta Rhymes and Method Man and James Brown a little bit of Richard Burton.

Hardy, being a hip-hop fan, found “Buster Rhymes would be the most emphatic kind of sound.” Along with that, he took inspiration from old-school Tribe Called Quest as well.

In an earlier interview with Screen Rant, Hardy talked about his vision for Venom’s voice and how he wanted it to sound like mixing all his inspirations. He said,

Redman, Busta Rhymes, and James Brown as ingredients, and then I played with it to create the fusion of sort of what you hear, which sounds nothing like that but initially was like a vibe or heartbeat that I wanted to bring to it. That kind of bombastic, playful, like dark, witty, clever, you know, honest, but with a power familiar friendly sound which is palatable.

In the first Venom, Brad Venable’s voice was also layered with Hardy’s voice to create the Venom voice. However, Venable was uncredited in the movie. Hardy later changed Venom’s voice in Venom 2 to show his character development since Brock had almost domesticated him.

With Venom: The Last Dance being the last movie for Tom Hardy’s Venom, fans are now speculating his future in Sony as well as in the MCU. However, since there is a piece of Venom symbiote in the MCU as well, it might be possible that Hardy will voice that too.

Talking about Venom being Spidey’s villain, according to scooper MyTimeToShineHello on X, Venom will appear in Spider-Man 4, but he might not be the main antagonist. There is also speculation that Venom and Spidey will team up ultimately to fight against Knull.

Knull has been the major topic of discussion for Venom 3. However, being a cosmic-level villain, Brock’s Venom can’t defeat him alone in one movie. Since Spider-Man 4 is likely to be released after Avengers: Doomsday, fans are speculating that Venom might end up on Earth-616 due to Doom’s actions and team up with Spidey against Knull.

Although defeating Knull is almost impossible for them, they might manage to send him back or trap him in the Primordial Void. There are high chances of Spider-Man 4 being a multiversal film that would serve as a narrative bridge between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Venom: The Last Dance will be released in theaters on October 25, 2024.
