But amidst all the announcements and casting news, there is one recent change that has brought a sense of nostalgia for the DC fans. Gunn has recently revealed the logo of DC Studios, and it is more than a fancy design with two letters.

A Logo with Legacy

It seems like DC Studios is trying to bring back the feeling of the good old days of comic books. At San Diego Comic-Con, DC Comics chief Jim Lee revealed the new logo for DC Studios and it is a throwback to the design used from 1976 to 2005.

A circular badge with DC’s letters, complete with four white, 5-pointed stars. That sums up the look of the new logo. James Gunn, in his typically candid style, joked about the decision-making process behind the logo. In a video message played during the panel, he said,

I can pretend we worked long and hard on what that was. But the truth is we knew what we wanted the logo to be when we were put in charge of DC Studios.

The new logo is the inspired version of the DC bullet logo, which was originally designed by Milton Glaser, the graphic design legend behind the iconic “I Love NY” logo. According to Gunn, the new logo needed to be “immediately recognizable” and honor the comics, legendary artists, and writers who inspired everything they do. In the video shared at SDCC, Gunn said,

Not to mention, the generations of passionate and extraordinary DC fans. We needed a logo that honors our past and now signifies our future- ours and yours.

While explaining the reason behind the logo choice, Gunn revealed that he and Peter Safran were focused on bringing “distinct worlds of DC film, TV, animation, and gaming into alignment under a single banner” from day one.

The new logo seems to serve the purpose as Gunn promises its use over all types of projects, be it comics, animations, games, or movies, and the nostalgic touch and being the most recognizable logo among multiple logos over the years won’t take much effort to build the audience connection.

James Gunn recently shared some interesting artwork on his Instagram featuring David Corenswet as the new Man of Tomorrow. The artwork shows Corenswet’s Superman soaring through the sky with the classic ‘S’ symbol. Gunn revealed that the artwork is a sticker gifted by Superman’s camera department.

A few weeks ago, Gunn also shared the new look and suit of Corenswet’s Superman, which received mixed reactions from fans as many compared it with Henry Cavill’s version. The newer suit is brighter, which sets a lighter tone for this Superman. The ‘S’ on the chest is simpler, and most importantly, the classic trunks are back.

Gunn also revealed the official logo for Superman a few days ago, underscoring the release date after exactly one year. The cast of the movie looks promising, as there are Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, among many others.

As Gunn is famous for highlighting the lesser-known characters in his films, Superman won’t be much different from that. The film will lay the foundation for the new DCU, which is already working on various upcoming projects.

Superman will be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
