Kate Winslet earned a household name overnight after slaying the role of Rose alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in James Cameron‘s Titanic. The actress tends to be drawn to movie roles that captivate her fans and surprise people related to her work while selecting projects. The Labor Day star believes that over the years, she landed on roles that were even more interesting than those of her young days and attributes this to her own choices.
The Triple 9 actress claimed that there were some roles she chose that did challenge and scare her, but Winslet’s positive intuitions and self-motivation helped her play every challenging role. In an interview with HuffPost, Kate Winslet stated:
“[With] Hannah I was very much playing a character, and I remember staring down the barrel of the gun and thinking, ‘S***. I really have nothing I can relate to here. There’s nothing of my own experience I can put into this character, at all. So let’s just start right there and hope for the goddamn best.”
The actress revealed that she felt a great responsibility to do justice to her character Hanna in The Reader as she had nothing in common with the character. Despite the challenges, Kate Winslet enjoyed tackling difficult roles like the ones in Revolutionary Road and The Reader, making her believe that they were worth pursuing.
The Reader Earned Kate Winslet Her Only Academy Award
Kate Winslet revealed that the role of Hanna in The Reader scared her a lot but despite the challenges the actress did not turn down the role and eventually praised herself for making an incredible choice. The Titanic star earned her one and only Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in The Reader. The film was critically acclaimed and landed several nominations. Kate Winslet as Hanna Schmitz and David Kross as Michael Berg were cast in the leading roles.
