2014’s Edge of Tomorrow is considered to be one of the best action sci-fi movies of the past decade. With its mind-bending concept and high-octane sequences, fans have been buzzing about a potential sequel. The film, stars Tom Cruise’s impressive portrayal of Major Cage alongside Emily Blent’s Sergeant Rita Vrataski and follows a story set in a distant future where the Earth is under attack by an alien race. Due to its high intellectual property for a sequel, actress Emily Blunt expressed her eagerness to work on the Edge of Tomorrow 2.

Emily Blunt, known for her versatility, has gained acclaim for various top-notch roles in Hollywood. Her portrayal of Sergeant Rita Vrataski in Edge of Tomorrow has captured the attention of critics and audiences alike. Due to the movie’s compelling storytelling and the potential for further exploration, Blunt in the Happy Sad Confused podcast, revealed her enthusiasm and interest in being part of a sequel to the film alongside the Maverick star, Tom Cruise.
“No, because I wish there could be one. Have I ever read a script? Yes, we did. There was one that Doug [Liman] kind of slithered over to me. I would love to make it a reality, but I just don’t know when or how”.
It was reported that the prospective script for the sequel is in the works, although there hasn’t been much progress. Regardless, the actress has expressed her intention to work on the highly anticipated sequel.

It’s been a decade since the movie was released, and during this time lead actor Cruise has been busy with his fearless portrayal of Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible series for years. Blunt in the podcast playfully encouraged Cruise to consider returning to the role of his “cowardly hero” Major William Cage in the Edge of Tomorrow sequel.
“And how many Mission: Impossible does [Tom Cruise] need? Come on. Come back to the side where you can be a…wasn’t he brilliant as the cowardly hero? Incredible. I’m so ready. I’m not the impediment, I promise.”
While the 2016 update of Edge of Tomorrow suggests that the sequel was in development, and there hasn’t been any official confirmation of the project. In May 2021, Blunt on the Howard Stern Show revealed the possibility of the sequel is negligible citing the significant financial hurdle of making the movie.
Doug Liman eyes Edge of Tomorrow 2 with smaller action than the former
The movie, The Edge of Tomorrow, directed by Doug Liman, is based on the Japanese light novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. The story of the movie is set in a distant future where Earth is under attack by highly intelligent aliens called Mimics. The movie follows Cruise’s Major William Cage, an inexperienced military officer, who is unexpectedly put on the front lines of the battle against the Mimics.

Consequently, in an encounter with the alien, the Cruise character dies and gets trapped in a time loop, reliving the same events repeatedly. With the help of Blunt’s Rita Vrataski, he learns to adapt to the time loop and becomes a skilled fighter. Together, they work to unravel the secrets and set out a mission to save humanity from the dangerous Mimics. The movie was a commercial successful grossing $370.5 million in the worldwide theatrical run.
Doug Liman wants to develop the sequel because he loves its idea, However, he started with Edge of Tomorrow and plans to end it with only one sequel. While speaking to MTV Podcast, he further mentioned that part two of the movie will have a “smaller” scale and less action compared to its predecessor.
