How Old Is Every Major Character In Dune (2021)?

After going through the ages of every major character in Dune (2021), here is a list of how old each of them is.

An Introduction To Villeneuve’s Dune

Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel featured a huge cast that varied in various aspects, one of them being their ages. Dune follows Paul Atreides’ family from Arrakis, where he gets surrounded by both prophecy and politics. Paul’s parents have quite a high hope for him. Duke Leto (Paul’s father) thrives to groom him so that he could take his place one day. At the same time, Lady Jessica, played by Rebecca Ferguson, thrives to figure out whether or not she has given birth to Kwisatz Haderach.

With time, many allies show up to Arrakis, including Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin), Thufir Hawat (Stephen McKinley Henderson), and Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa). All of them have served as a mentor to Paul in different stages of life. In fact, Paul dreams about Chani, a character played by Zendaya, the only character who is close to his age. The age differences are somewhat mirrored in House Harkonnen as well, led by an old patriarch.

The age materials are, however, closer to that from the source material. Even Herbert’s novel includes characters of all ages; young, middle-aged, and young. In both the film and the novel, the age difference serves the storyline by discovering many conflicts in and around the universe from various perspectives. But how old every major character is?

Paul Atreides

The gifted and powerful Paul Atreides falls much on the younger side of the spectrum. The film, however, never exactly reveals his real age. But Paul is the youngest Atreides alive in Herbert’s book and is nearly around fifteen years old. While Villeneuve’s Dune also shows similar things, such as his growing knowledge, it is quite admissible to assume that Paul might age between 18-21 and not beyond that.

Lady Jessica

Neither the novel nor the movie echoes Lady Jessica’s true age. However, Herbert’s sci-fi novel described Paul’s Bene Gesserit as a regal bronze-haired, beautiful woman. It didn’t indicate any signs of her being old anyway. Because Paul is fifteen years old in Herbert’s novel, Lady Jessica must be around in her late 30s and not beyond that.

Duke Leto

Herbert’s sci-fi novel has been reluctant about pointing the ages of its characters. But, it echoed some descriptions about their physical attributes and demeanors. The patriarch of the Atreides is portrayed by Oscar Isaac in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. He appears to be in a very good health condition though. While he looks quite older than Lady Jessica, he must be aged somewhere between the mid and late 40s. However, the age difference between both of them is fairly accurate as per Herbert’s book. The novel, on the other hand, described Duke Leto as even older, perhaps between 50 and 60 years old.
