SUMMARY
  • Hugh Jackman is widely known for his phenomenal acting and commanding presence on the screen.
  • Wolverine's scathing monologue directed towards Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine has impressed fans.
  • Jackman had a similar monologue directed towards Jake Gyllenhaal in Denis Villeneuve's Prisoners.

There is a reason Hugh Jackman was theoretically unemployed for a total of 13 seconds after he graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts before he landed a role in the TV series Correlli.

The show not only marked his screen debut but also gave him the girl of his dreams, Deborra-Lee Furness to whom he was happily married for 27 years. So, yes, that is just how good he has been at acting even though he did not think of it as more than a hobby until he was 22.

The most recent glimpse of his excellence as an actor can be seen in MCU’s Deadpool & Wolverine. One particular scene in this movie that has attracted a lot of attention is Wolverine’s monologue when he is with Deadpool in the car. Ironically, he did a very similar scene in Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners.

Hugh Jackman has played numerous roles over the course of thirty years of his professional acting career. From blockbuster movies to musicals and stage plays, he has done it all. Even so, the role he is most known for and gained worldwide recognition with is that of the X-Man Wolverine.

Jackman played the role so well and for so long that he is synonymous with the character. Not to mention that he has won the Guinness World Record for playing a live-action Marvel character for the longest time. That said, his emotional outburst during one of his fights with Deadpool is going to be remembered for quite some time.

In the cab of Nicepool’s Honda Odyssey, the iconic superhero duo has one of their worst fights in which the clawed mutant not only mocks Deadpool’s ability to save the world but also takes a personal dig saying that the Merc with the Mouth could not even save his “relationship with a stripper.”

Hugh Jackman Has Done a Similar Monologue in Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners

Jackman had a very similar monologue in Denis Villeneuve’s thriller Prisoners. In the scene, his character Keller Dover, a father desperate to find his missing daughter, frantically tries to make Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal) understand the urgency and gravity of the situation.

Keller tells Loki that he believes that the police and even Loki are not doing enough to look for his daughter and he is planning to take matters into his own hands. It is an emotionally charged monologue in a car while it’s heavily raining outside.

Keller’s frustration and desperation are palpable as is his willingness to cross ethical lines to find his daughter. It shows just how far a parent is willing to go to save their child from danger. Jackman’s performance seems quite worthy of an Oscar. Although the movie received critical appreciation, unfortunately, the only Academy Award nomination it got was for Best Cinematography.
