“I am not doing any of this in vain”: Justin Timberlake Was Upset With Unfair Response to His Casting in ‘The Social Network’
As per reports, Justin Timberlake revealed how he thinks that he owes his success as a movie star to the American filmmaker David Fincher, who cast him in the critically acclaimed movie The Social Network. Being the former boy band member of NSYNC, Timberlake hadn’t established himself as a serious actor yet.
It was Fincher who saw something in him and cast him as the co-founder of Napster, Sean Parker. It helped affect the perception of others towards him and opened the doors to Hollywood. Since The Social Network, Timberlake has starred in many successful movies including Trolls, Palmer, and Llewyn Davis.
Justin Timberlake Had to Prove Himself
After a slight break from a successful career in music, Timberlake, in the late 2000s, started to focus on his filmography. He did some notable projects, including Black Snake Moan and Alpha Dog, which garnered some praise. However, it wasn’t till him being cast in The Social Network that he found his skills as an actor getting the recognition he deserved.
But the In Time actor told The Independent that it might have affected the movie’s reputation adversely. He said:
“I do think there was probably a cloud over a movie like The Social Network in a way that may have been a little unfair, but that’s OK. I can respect that. I think the important thing for people to understand is that I’m not doing any of this in vain. I’m doing it because I take it seriously.”
Timberlake did prove himself by giving a great performance in the 2010 Oscar-nominated feature film as tech-millionaire Sean Parker. He proved himself as a capable actor and even started getting more recognition.
Justin Timberlake Values His Fans
Timberlake, after finding success with The Social Network, wanted to reassure fans that he didn’t abandon his music career. As per him, he never stopped considering himself a musician, and he always intended to return to music as, for him, it’s his bread and butter. He said:
“And I mean that in a personal way, I don’t mean that it finances my ‘acting hobbies.’ I joke with my friends that I should have a business card saying ‘David Fincher put me in a movie,’ because Bad Teacher got a blessing due to The Social Network, and then Friends With Benefits came out of that.”
Timberlake even disagreed with an idea about him trying to send the message by picking the string of the film projects and emphasized the enduring passion he carries for the music. For him, he was just taking the opportunistic advantage that came his way.
With all the acknowledgments being made by Timberlake, it’s quite assured that he values his career and fans equally, and he will never compromise on either. So, it becomes our sole responsibility to enjoy his performance and appreciate all that he brings to the table.
