Leonardo DiCaprio says he was ‘fired’ from Romper Room
Actor Leonardo DiCaprio was five years old when his mother got him an acting job in the 1953 children’s TV show; Romper Room which ran till 1994 and was created for preschoolers and featured kids aged 4-to 6 years who played games, sang songs, and, of course, learned lessons from the hostess.
DiCaprio shared with Deadline via CheatSheet,
“I have very faint memories of it, but I remember my stepbrother dabbled in acting when he was young. Romper Room was the big hit show, and there I was. I remember running up to the camera, looking into it, and slapping it. They had to sit me down multiple times. And when the host said, ‘Hey, kids, it’s story time,’ I am screaming, at the top of my voice, ‘Yeaaah!’ And then they fired me. I’m afraid I deserved it. They had to kick me out.”
The actor had revealed during a conversation with Interview Magazine that his parents were very supportive of his dream of being an actor and it was his mother who got him a part on the show.
Explaining the situation on the show, DiCaprio noted,
“They couldn’t control me. I would run up and smack the camera, and I’d jump around and do my little flips and routines. I wish I could get that tape now. But I have other memories too.”
The actor had mentioned that it was one of his favorite shows.
