“I couldn’t act..I can’t do it anymore”: Christian Bale Was Forced To Ask Chris Rock To Leave Him Alone While Shooting “Amsterdam”
Christian Bale reportedly isolated himself from Chris Rock while shooting his new movie, Amsterdam because he thinks Chris Rock is “so bloody funny.” A lot of Hollywood’s big stars like Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Robert De Niro, and Rami Malek are a part of David O. Russell’s latest film, Amsterdam. The Equilibrium star recently revealed that he couldn’t shoot a scene when Chris Rock was around because he was too funny. He revealed that he had to “isolate” himself in order to prepare for his role.
Christian Bale is a fan of Chris Rock
In an interview with IndieWire, Christian Bale revealed that he is a huge fan of Chris Rock‘s standup comedy. He further explained that his jokes were “so funny” that it stopped him from focusing on the scene and they had to reshoot the whole scene. The actor said,
“I remember his first day, I was excited to meet him, I’m a big fan of his standup. Then he arrives, and he’s doing some things… David [O Russell] told him to tell me some stories that I didn’t know he was gonna tell me, which is the way David works often. And I was loving it.”
The actor then explained his behavior annoyed David O. Russell that’s why he used his simple trick of “isolating.”
Christian Bale isolated himself
The actor then revealed that he had to avoid Chris Rock as he couldn’t focus on acting, stating “I was just becoming Christian laughing at Chris Rock.” He said in the interview,
“So I had to go to him, I went, ‘Mate, I love talking to you, and we have mutual friends, but I can’t do it anymore. Because David didn’t ask me to make this film so he could just watch me giggle. He wants me to be Burt and I’m forgetting how to be Burt.'”
In the movie, Christian Bale plays one of the three Americans that decide to make a lifelong friendship pact while serving in World War I but they soon find themselves investigating a dangerous conspiracy.
The actor is not new to isolating
The Batman Begins star had to “isolate” himself to get into character. He explained that this is a part of his process, “I often meet these incredible people, but I isolate myself because if I get to know people too much, I find I just don’t believe what I’m doing in the scene.” The actor is well-known for his excellent performances in American Psycho, The Fighter, and Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.
Amsterdam will hit theaters on October 7th, 2022.
