However, not many people know that the audition for the perfect Ron, Harry, and Hermione was not only rigorous but also took time. Actor Emma Watson spoke about repeated auditions during an interview with a media outlet.

Emma Watson Had To Audition Almost Eight Times For The Role Of Hermione Granger

During an appearance on the reputed chat show Friday Night With Jonathan Ross in 2021, Emma Watson spoke about Harry Potter, her character, and how she had totally given up during the auditions for the role of Hermione Granger. The actor recalled that the franchise got her and Rupert Grint for Hermione and Ron, but the hunt for the perfect Harry was still going on. She said-

“They were trying to find the right Harry to go with. I think they had Rupert and me, in place earlier, they found us already and we kept auditioning with lots of different potential Harrys. So I did eight auditions maybe.”

During an interview with the famous media platform British GQ in 2013, the Little Women actor reflected on her character Hermione Granger. The actor even spoke about how badly she had wanted to play the character. She said-

 “I worked hard to get Hermione, and my mum has a video I did for the first audition and she has me doing the same takeover and over, like 27 times from nine in the morning until five in the afternoon and I was just relentless. I wasn’t sure I wanted to act, but I was sure I wanted this part.”

Casting Director Of Harry Potter Revealed An Actor Had Almost Surpassed the Role Of Hermione Granger

During an interview with the notable media forum HuffPost the casting director of the Harry Potter franchise revealed a lesser-known fact about Hermione Granger. Janet Hirshenson confessed that the actor Hatty Jones was the initial choice for the role of the character played by Emma Watson. The casting director explained-

“There was another little girl that we tested who had just done I think ‘Madeline. She had done a big movie, and she was quite Hermione-ish, so I think Emma saw her at the auditions and went, ‘Oh, well, I got no chance. There’s her.’”
