Reportedly, after publicly announcing his desire to run for governor of Texas, the usually shirtless actor is now thinking about entering the presidential race. As per reports, the Oscar-winning actor said to Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff during a speech at a technology conference in the San Francisco Bay Area that he would be “arrogant not to run for president.”
Matthew David McConaughey also explained that destiny, not free will, is what led to his potential for political involvement. The Magic Mike actor reportedly is putting in extra effort to fulfill his dream of occupying the White House.
However, as sources said, his ambition is a problem for his Brazilian model and designer wife, Camila Alves McConaughey. She is reportedly worried that his presidential run will cause problems in their marriage and believes this could end their 11-year marriage.
Matthew McConaughey’s presidential run may be ‘inevitable’
The 53-year-old Oscar-winning actor discussed his decision to discontinue appearing in romantic comedies as well as his wife’s response to his announcement in an interview, which was conducted in 2021 for the cover story of AARP The Magazine.
Referring to himself as “the go-to rom-com guy,” Matthew David McConaughey found himself dissatisfied with the genre despite his success in movies like The Wedding Planner, Fool’s Gold, Failure to Launch, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
“I wanted to do work that reflected my personal vitality.” Dramas were not being offered to him, though, “regardless of the pay cut I would accept. So I quit,” McConaughey added.
Matthew McConaughey wanted to be Texas governor in 2021 but then changed his mind. He’s now allegedly aiming for the presidency to be run in 2028. His family reacted differently to the news, including his wife, who is terrified of his involvement in politics as she fears this could be an issue in their marriage.
The actor referred to running for president in a speech he gave last fall, saying,
“If that happened to me, I would be pulled into it. If I’m living right, which I’m trying to, we get pulled into things … it’s inevitable. I didn’t choose it, it chose me.”
While his 41-year-old Brazilian model wife allegedly isn’t on board with her husband’s plans and thinks there is danger everywhere.

Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves’ relationship has always been great. But before their 2006 encounter, the Frailty actor reportedly feared he wouldn’t find love or establish a family. The couple got married in 2012 after dating for six years.
Since then, the couple has never been apart, whether they are caring for their three children, celebrating professional achievements, or helping communities across the nation. The Sing actor shared a video of him and the Brazilian model promoting gun safety at the White House toward the end of the previous year.
According to reports, Alves even persuaded McConaughey to give up acting so he could focus more on being a good father. Since 2019, the actor hasn’t appeared in a film and has instead focused on raising his three children. However, sources claim that his wife worries that his plans to run for president “will consume him and has the potential to tear their family apart.”
Despite years of political commentary, the Ghosts of Girlfriends Past actor only recently started to get more involved in politics. He has allegedly given his opinions on the necessity of both parties coming together to work on issues in 2020.
