Meghan Markle Shares Her Culture Shock While Meeting Kate Middleton
In the latest documentary titled, Harry & Meghan, Meghan Markle discusses the first time she met the Princess of Wales. According to her, she was meeting Kate Middleton and Prince William for a dinner at her place. As Markle is a person who hugs people a lot, she did the same while welcoming the Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge. She recalls saying, “Like I was a hugger, always been a hugger,”. And so when she leaned in for an embrace, the royal couple had been very formal and did not reciprocate the same. Markle said, “I didn’t realize that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.”
Further, the mother of two shared that although there was a “forward-facing” way of being, however, that was abandoned once people were in a home environment. But in the case of the British royals, it was not the case. She said, “But that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me.”
According to the Duchess of Sussex, she feels that it was a good thing she did not know the formalities nonetheless. Because of that, she could be her authentic self without advanced preparedness and all. Another point Markle shared was that while meeting Middleton, she had been barefoot, in her ripped jeans.
