“I do believe in that”: Aquaman 2 Star Patrick Wilson Said Fans Should Thank a Zack Snyder Movie for Creating the Avengers as a $7.72B Box Office Behemoth
Upon its release in 2018, Aquaman became the highest-grossing DCU movie with a worldwide collection of $1.150 billion. Although James Wan isn’t a fan of making sequels, he agreed to develop a sequel for the Jason Momoa starrer superhero film because he wanted the story to have a follow-up that is good enough if not better than the first movie.
In 2019, Patrick Wilson indicated that he would be returning as Orm Marius aka Ocean Master from the first film. Ahead of the movie’s release which has been moved down due to several setbacks, Wilson appeared in an interview to discuss his experience of directing Insidious: The Red Door. During the interview, he also talked about the impact of Zack Snyder’s Watchmen.
Zack Snyder’s Watchmen Paved the Way For Avengers’ Success
Zack Snyder has undoubtedly given the world some of the greatest movies of all time. From his debut movie Dawn of the Dead to the superhero film Man of Steel that kickstarted DC Extended Universe, the American director has somehow managed to impress his fans every single time.
Snyder also directed the 2009 movie Watchmen based on the limited DC comics of the same name. In an interview with ReelBlend, Patrick Wilson who portrayed Nite Owl in the movie said that this movie contributed largely to Avengers‘ huge box office collection of $7.72 billion.
According to Wilson, Zack Snyder’s Watchmen had dark undertones which was easily countered by Avengers‘ light tones. The actor said:
“I just wanted to look at it as an older guy, as a filmmaker. I knew Zack was ahead of the curve. It’s weird to say that audiences weren’t ready for it. But you need a movie like that. You need movies to go so dark that then Avengers can go so light. I do believe in that.”
The Insidious star claimed that Watchmen was the only movie he has starred in that he has watched completely. He also expressed his interest in returning to the world Snyder created in that movie. However, he was not seen in the eponymous limited HBO series.

Not only Aquaman 2 will see Wilson reprising the role of Orm Marius from the first movie but also find his character stronger than before as his half-brother and King of Atlantis Arthur Curry aka Aquaman (portrayed by Jason Momoa) will be seen trying to fix their relationship in favor of exploring family dynamics in the movie.
