The Peaky Blinder star Cillian Murphy, who has been in the spotlight ever since the release of Oppenheimer, recently opened up about this dislike of working in the entertainment business. Even after giving an exceptional performance in different movies like Inception, 28 days later, A Quiet Place Part 2, Peaky Blinder, and reaching the pinnacle of success Murphy still find discomfort in some of the common practice related to his profession.

Cillian Murphy agrees to have challenges with acting even today

The 47-year-old Irish actor humbly agrees to have challenges with his acting profession even after doing multiple films. In a recent interview with The Guardian, Cillian Murphy open ups about his struggle with some of the formalities of the entertainment industry.

In this interview, Murphy expresses his discomfort and distaste for being public about everything. He says “I’m stubborn and lacking in confidence, which is a terrible combination. I don’t want to put anything out that I don’t think is excellent.” Murphy even stated he hated being on talk shows. Giving forced laughter to the host and the studio audience during the talk shows is considered by him to be the most cheapening experience for mankind.

In the context of this Murphy said “I do them because you’re contractually obliged to. I just endure them. I’ve always found it difficult. I’ve said this so many, many times.” He further continued “I want to just caveat this by saying, I’m so privileged. I’m so happy to be doing what I love. I’m really lucky. But I don’t enjoy the personality side of being an actor. I don’t understand why I should be entertaining and scintillating on a talk show. I don’t know why all of a sudden that’s expected of me. Why?”’

In this interview, Cillian Murphy also came out in support of Naomi Osaka, the renowned tennis player who refused to go talk with the journalist after the French Open in 2021. Despite having all the logic to his point Murphy still understands the need for promoting movies as it is part of his work. “But I get it. I get it’s a kind of ecosystem where the film feeds the publicity which feeds the talk shows which goes back and feeds the film, so, like, that’s how it works. I suppose I’m just not good at it. At interviews, at this stuff,” says Murphy.

Despite his dislike towards being interviewed Cillian Murphy has recently been very active in the press for the promotion of Oppenheimer. The biographical thriller directed by Christopher Nolan revolves around the historical event. The movie showcases the story of J Robert Oppenheimer a renowned physicist also known as ‘The Father of Atomic Bomb’. Cillian Murphy plays the role of Oppenheimer in the film. The outstanding acting of Murphy has indeed hooked the audience to this movie showing excellent results at the box office. Ever since the release of the movie on 21st July theaters are filled to their capacity.
